People who DON'T want to go to WDW?

:cool1: :cool1: Never thought of it that way before!!! You're SO right!!!

That's what I say! I'm not sure why it bothers people so much that there are those who have no interest in going to WDW and probably never will.

I couldn't imagine a non-Disney Vacation to be quite honest. We've been going ever since I was about 2, there and to Ft. Lauderdale. Also after I got sick when I was 14 (I'm 21 now) we only do Disney as they can deal safely with my food restrictions, we aren't that far from my team of Dr's should an emergency arise it's only a 2 1/2 hour med flight. And it helps me really forget about the Dr's, and my health and fully escape. They help me stay out of the sun, I can zoom around in my ECV and not feel silly or judged and everyone is always so nice and never questions it even though I look healthy!

I always wanted to travel abroad though, and still do. I was supposed to do a semester abroad in Prague (Czech Republic) but was unable to get the required shots due to my illness, and since then in talking to my Dr's they are concerned about the length of the flights and what happens if I get sick there.

Disney is just the best option for us and I don't mind that at all! Plus it's hard to worry when everything is in the hands of a Mouse!

I can relate. I never went to Disney as a child and finally went when I was 30. I've been twice and am definitely going back for a quickie in Sept and once more next year for the full week. We all love it and trully enjoy it, even Dh. We have such wonderful family memories that you can't get anywhere else. I've been trying to talk my sisters into going too, they want to go but when the "baby is old enough" and "when I have children of my own" they're not there yet and kind of laugh at me when I talk about Disney.
That being said, we' ve been to Europe 4 times and Seattle once. I love to see other places too. We never planned on going to Disney once a year, even though it's turning out that way after next year! :) We definitely love to see other parts of the world and do other things besides a theme park. I'm sure after our 2006 Disney vaca. we'll take a break and go back to Europe. We have a favorite spot there too and we miss it! The sights and experiences there are breathtaking. We like the kids to see all kinds of things besides rides and characters. We try to find a balance. :daisy:

We are full felgded Disney Nuts, our friends "like it' they have been with us twice now (last year and this year) mostly because we like to go places together and because it is such an easy fun place to go with young kids.

However they are just dying to world travel with the kids (like they did before they had kids.) They think the Disney Trips has prepared them for it and let them get a feel of how their kids do on trip. We might even go on a trip with them, but then they get to get the travel guides for us!

Part of it is a comfort zone thing for my hubby, he just enjoys himself more when he can relax and since he knows WDW and the ins and out of the trip he can not worry abou thing so much like he would traveling to new places.

My brother travels around the world and thinks we are rather nuts, but the does like Epcot too.

To each his own. Lots of people have their favorite vaction spot. Personally the 2 hour flight is all I can handle with kids so it works perfectly for me (and we own DVC too!)

Now that most of my friends kids are getting to be pre-school and up they are wanting to go to WDW, when I find they went and didn'c consult me I always wonder why. Later they tell me things that if they would of talked with me ahead of time I could of told them what to do about it. Oh well. Many of them feel it is an once in a life time trip. We will have been at WDW at least one day in Feb, March, April and May in 2005. :earboy2:

I don't get it either. My sister and her family is a perfect example. They all LOVE rides... have season passes to a local park, but have no interest in Disney! :confused3

I don't understand what's not to get. Some people just aren't interested in Disney. It's like a huge baseball fan looking at me and my complete and total lack of interest in baseball.

I'd like to point out that some of us "world travellers" who enjoy museums and movies you may not have heard of also enjoy WDW too.

I have to agree with this!! ::yes::

Dh and I cannot WAIT to take our ds to London next spring, when he will be around 16 months old. However, he will have already been to WDW four times (if you count in utero) by then! :cheer2: To us, BOTH kinds of vacations have an important place in our lives. Fortunately, my parents do live in Orlando so we will never have to choose between other vacations and WDW...since seeing my family several times a year is a priority for me and at least 2 of those visits will take place in Florida...might as well see The Mouse while we're at it! :earsboy: So my suggestion is to have relatives move near Disney and your problems will all be solved!

I guess for me it was strange that people wouldn't want to take their kids there sometime--at least once. I just think a five year old would not appreciate Europe. I love all kinds of trips--museums, mountains, whatever..but a lot of them are not appropriate for young children. I will say, I am not sure if some of the people I asked had ever been to Disney themselves. Maybe they think it is a roller coaster park.

because living very close to Disney it amazes how many people who live here and have no interest in going. They say crowds, lines, overpriced, capitalism, whatever. To me the perks of being a FL resident are a "gift" from the mouse! :cool1: With season passes you can pick and choose to go when there are no lines, the best weather, great room rates, $29 a night at FW.

I think you have to GET the MAGIC! Some do and some don't.

I have traveled all over this country. (no Europe for me because no flying for me) I love the vistas, the views, all the beauty of the different parts of this country, but I'm still in the world so to speak, with all the trappings of traffic and so forth. In Disney I'm truly on a vacation because I'm out of the World and in the land of make believe.

So if you think it's strange that someone doesn't want to pack up and fly to Disney, think about how strange it looks for a die hard disney fan when those having such easy access have have no interest and they look at you like you are an adult with some kind of Peter Pan Syndrome!

I don't even have the excuse of taking little ones!

I went for the first time when I was 13 and didn't return until I was 21 since then I have been back 9 times. DH and I got married at Sunset Pointe at the Poly last October....and it was his first trip! He and I will be back for our 1st anniversary, but we are taking a trip to Mexico in May. I would have prefered WDW, but he wants some sand and relaxation...Oh well at least he's agreed to go once a year!

It's beyond my Brother's comprehension why people wait in lines they way they do in Disney.
He went to DisneyLand and absolutely hated it!

I have 2 Brothers-in-law that can't imagine spending the money that we do in Disney. (and if I talk to them for more than a few minutes I quickly agree!)

My sister looks at me condescendingly and tells me that she could fly to any country in Europe and stay at a 5 star hotel for two weeks and still spend less than I do in 10 days in Disney. (Which is also true! I've seen cost comparisons in magazines done over the years)

My other sister wants to go but always goes somewhere else that is fun too.

But my DW's side of the family are for the most part Disney fanatics.
My Brother-in-law practically lives there!

I think to a lot of people Disney is just a Dumbo ride or little kids place.

I guess it all depends on what you're into. I have a friend who has 4 children. She said that if her kids ever want to go to WDW, they'll have to pay for it themselves.

I agree with whoever said it helps if you went as a child yourself. I practically grew up at WDW and I have so many fond memories of it. :goodvibes

I went to WDW when there was only the MK & like 3 characters walking around in 1974! I don't remember much (except Main St.) When I was 29 & my DD was 2, my Dh was there on business & wanted us to fly down to meet him at the end of his meetings. I figured I'd go "for my DD" & that it wasn't so much for me but as for me to watch her have fun which was fine. Well when we all got there we realized how much fun WDW is for everyone & we were hooked. We try to go at least every other year. (we would do more if we could manage it financially!)

Now we have 2 more kiddies who have thought of Disney as "our" place. I find that WDW offers service that you cannot get everywhere..to me it is a "guaranteed good time". We know where everything is...we know where to eat & what to do & where to stay. I also feel like every child should be lucky enough to do WDW once because kids are only little once & I love to see my kids faces when they see the "magic"...they stilll believe which I know won't be like that forever...

Funny thing, last summer we went to Williamsburg VA for a "change". While I like Colonial Williamsburg, Busch Gardens to me was such a disappointment. All I kept thinking was "for this price we could be in WDW having more fun than here". It didn't compare on any level & just didn't have a "great time" like we do in WDW. :worried:

So we are going back to WDW this Oct & everyone is so excited thats all we talk about. Hopefully we will be going in Aug 2006 too! :cool1:

My girlfriends & I had a conversation about this too...all of them have been to Disney but only once & the also say "we will go back in a few years". They think I am nuts too...but hey to each his/her own. I love Disney and don't need to make excuses for it. If that makes me an "uncultured, typical American tourist, so be it! :earboy2:

I completey disagree with this. I went to Walt Disney World every year from the time I was 11 months old until I was 12. I love WDW. However, my parents took us on all kinds of other vacations which included nature, museums, cruises, road trips etc. and I can't think of a vacation that I didn't have a ball. I have fond memories of writing in my journal in first grade about camping and visiting museums on Prince Edward Island. I don't think other types of vacations are not appropriate for young children. In fact, I think it is important for young children to be exposed to these other types of experiences.

Also, I think we are being a little snobby about this. There are plenty of people who can't afford to go to WDW. Their children aren't worse off because of it or any such thing.

Sorry for the rant but I think some of us have injested a little too much pixie dust (myself most definitely included).

It doesn't drive me nuts to hear that others are not into Disney, I think it is all about different tastes.

What DOES irk me past the edge of Spaceship Earth and back again is when people start telling me NOT to go to WDW! My DH and I are honeymooning there next month and have had every sort of reaction from, "That's the best spot! I wish I would have went there!" to full fledged horror, "Your joking right? I mean that is the most dumb thing I have ever heard. What kind of childish idiots would want to go there? What are you two? 7?" <-- My MIL's response, and no I'm not kidding. Picture Cruella Deville but worse. ;) She even called a travel agent friend of hers and had them call us to try to talk us out of going to WDW, and she's taken to sending us "alternative iteneraries" lately that include the Florida Keys now. LMAO

My DBF's younger (11yo) sister informed her mother yesterday that she "hates this trip dosn't want to go and is going to be super miserable" the whole time we are there. I seriously wish we could just leave the lil brat at home. (you may have guessed i don't like the kid. in which case i would have to say you are absolutely........RIGHT. I had to politely ask her not to speak to me anymore after she refused to stop calling me and her brother "friggen stupid retarted freaks" who should just go to H.E.double hockeysticks. Her own mother cant even control her. Boy this is going to be an event. Mind you I did kindly explain to her mom that while i appreciate being invited along I have worked hard to plan this with no help from anyone and I WILL enjoy this trip AS I PLANNED IT regardless of her daughter and if that means leaving her company completely except for in the hotel room I will do so. I have also told her that I will steal her son too. She told me that she will just take her kid back to the hotel room and leave her there (with NO key-so she can't come and go as she pleases) and join us at the park ASAP.... ) In the meantime I seriously wonder how she can possibly hate this trip so much. The only place she has ever gone is Niagara Falls (Ontario) and I mean we live in Toronto so its no big deal for us to go there....

OOPS!!!:earseek: Sorry I didnt' mean to rant

My brother and his wife are total snobs!!! They vacationed in Disney a few years ago and said "I'm glad that's over with!" They acted as if taking their kids to Disney was a chore that they had to do. It is as if Disney is beneath them. How weird!!!
