People who DON'T want to go to WDW?

I've been so excited planning my trip that I've been asking friends/people I know if they have been to WDW with their kids. And I've been surprised by some of the answers.

One friend said she would rather take her 5 & 7 year old to Europe. Another said he used to work for Disney (not sure what capacity--I think for the Disney store), and he said it just doesn't interest him although he has free tickets. (Can I have them?!) His family-- a 3 and 6 year old went to Mexico recently.

Now I can understand not wanting to spend the money if you can't afford it. But you have to go at least once with your kids, right? :confused3

I think it really depends what you're into. I can fully understand while others may not want to go to WDW but I'm obsessed.

I'm with y'all. When we were talking about where to take our next extended family vacation (dh's family) in 2006, my SIL wanted to go to Africa or South America and doesn't ever want to consider WDW. I could maybe understand for adults only, but she's ready to take her boys who would be one and three next year.

Supposedly in her case it's because she doesn't agree with some of Disney's corporate practices, but she'll buy the Disney movies. :confused3

Yeah, it does depend what you're in to. All of my friends are not theme park people, they would rather go on a cruise or to the Bahamas, while I adore theme parks, especially Disney. Actually, one of my friends is going to Barbados the same time I'll be in WDW, and my friends are all fussing over her trip, not mine. I feel a bit bummed, but at least I know I'm going to have a great time. :earsgirl:

I can understand. After our trip in June, I do not plan to make a trip to the World for a long time. I want to go to Hawaii, Italy & Greece and take a few cruises. Did not care for the Disney cruise, so I am looking elsewhere for that, too.

I love WDW, but I need something else.

This is an yearly debate that I have with myself. The world is huge, why go to WDW all the time? I, too, would love to see the world, so I don't take the decision to go to WDW lightly. It is definitely at the cost of seeing other parts of the world, or even the country.

That being said, it is sooo good for the soul, that we just end up going to WDW. But I do see why other people wouldn't want to.

Oh.. I can SO relate to this!

DH refuses to go to Disney again (or anytime soon). It is not that he hates it, he always has a good time when we have been... he is just sick of it, and would rather cruise.

Me? I am a Disney Nut.. so this year, I am taking just my 10 yr old... leaving our 6 yr old and our baby, who will be four months with DH. All I have to say to him is :earboy2: !! Just because he doesn't want to go, doesn't mean my kids cannot have the opportunity. It will be five years since my son has been - and I will take my 6 yr old when he is 8 or 9.

My entire family, and my husbands.... they think something is wrong with me. They just don't get it. BUT I GET IT... I see the enjoyment, magic and all that crazy Disney Fun.

My parents are cruise fanatics....I'll have to fill you in some day. They have been all over.

Anyway, what did you not like on the Disney Cruise? We contemplated it but decided against it.

I can so relate to this thread. Every year my DBF says its the last time we go to Disney, and every year I convince him to go back. I did promise after this years June trip we would go out west next year, but then the Disney planning dvd showed us the everest ride opening in 2006, so he waivered a little and said if we go somewhere else too....lol :cool1:

Disney and a florida beach, and my life is complete. Theres nowhere else i need to go :cheer2:

I know a lot of artsy pretentious people who think Disney is for uncultured "little" people.

Since I generally  at pretentiousness, I just kind of ignore them.

These are the same people who think small children would have a better time at fancy museums than in fantasyland. That's because they don't want their kids to be kids. They want them to be miniature adults who can quote famous literature and point out famous paintings by the time they are 6. YES I KNOW PEOPLE LIKE THIS. They are insane. Obviously, normal people know there is a world of education and culture at WDW.

Am I being judgemental? You bet. And I really don't care since most of them treat me like I'm somehow "slow" or beneath them because I :

1. Like movies people have actually heard of/and or seen
2. read books that other people have heard of/read
3. listen to music other people have heard of/heard
4. Prefer Disney cartoons to poingant docu-dramas
and
5. Just generally have zero desire to spend a month backpacking through Europe. I'm sure Europe is lovely but if I go, I'm staying at the Disney hotel near Disneyland Paris. ;)

I like to vacation to other so called uncultured places as well, like Vegas and the Boardwalk in NJ. Aside from a handful of places, I really have no desire to see the world. I hate flying. Trans-atlantic flights would freak me out. I'm a really picky (boring) eater so I'd have to bring my own food to a lot of places. I am just really not world traveler material.

Don't have ANY desire to go on a plane, fly 10 hours, to see another country, not for me. :sad2: My DD is going to WDW in July, and "plans on going to Hawaii" next year! :earseek: Yea, right, I told her she could go to Hawaii by way of Disney....stay at the Polynesian! ;)

Yep, I can relate. I'm going back to Disney in May and I was just there in December. Most of my family thinks I'm crazy. We all went in December and everyone had a wonderful time, but they can't understand why I'd want to go back so soon. My brother in particular thinks I should go to Las Vegas instead! :rotfl: He and my SIL said they won't be going back to Disney for a few years, actually four years is the number they've come up with for some reason. They love beaches and resorts and they'd go anywhere where they can stay right on the beach every year if they could. To them "vacation" means lounging on the beach sipping marguiritas. I understand that, but to me it's BORING...even though I LOVE the ocean, I gotta have something to DO! Of course there is lots to do in Las Vegas, but I just really wanted to go back to Disney this time.

I'd like to point out that some of us "world travellers" who enjoy museums and movies you may not have heard of also enjoy WDW too.

Ali,

I'd be willing to bet if you (or anyone else who likes Disney) met some of these people, you'd want to slap them. ;)

Seriously, they are snobs. They act like everyone is below them. One girl from my office went to Italy and did the basic tourist stuff, and one of them made some snotty comment to her about acting like a tourist.

I think it helps if you went to Disney as a child yourself. I know that alot of what I enjoy about Disney is the nostalgia of all those childhood experiences. My parents took us every year from when I was age 5 until 18, and Disney feels like home to me. I love to travel to other places, and have been to Europe several times, but I just don't get that same magical feeling anywhere else.

I didn't get to go to WDW (or anywhere for that matter) as a child. My dad always said "we don't have the money to go anywhere". That's a whole other thread!!

Anyway, I never even paid attention to WDW because I knew I would never get to go. At that time I didn't realize I would grow up and be the queen of my own castle and that I alone would make vacation decisions for my family!!

So, when I went to WDW as an adult (a junior in college), I FELL IN LOVE and got COMPLETELY hooked. No one in my family understood--not even my mom--and I'm very close to her.

When Josh came along, I was determined that he would have the Disney experience as a child. If he didn't like it--fine. But I at least wanted him to experience it. And, I decided that it was high time my mother got first hand knowledge as well. After the first trip with the two of them, I found that they are just as crazy about Disney as I am!! :cool1: So it's a natural destination when we start talking about vacation.

I will say that I would like him to experience other places as well. We are planning to go to San Antonio later this summer/early fall.

This is a "little" off topic, but I have to say this: even though my mother now loves ALL THINGS DISNEY and can't WAIT to go back in May, she is seriously trying to talk me OUT of buying into DVC!! She can't say why--she just says that she "doesn't feel right" about it. Mind you, it's MY money. She doesn't live with us--it's just me and Josh. I don't get it!! :confused3 :confused3

We like Disney World (obviously) & usually go at least once a year.

But we also like to go other places & do other things.

I really enjoy visiting other places and seeing other things. But I can't stay away from Disney for to long. :flower:

But I dont get people who would never want to go to Disney, especially if they have kids.

I went to Disney as a kid and really got hooked when my mom took me and her sisters. It was a great trip and ever since then I want to go every year. So far I've been able to talk my husband into every other. I think it is the perfect family vacation. There is something for everyone and they add new things all the time. I can't wait for soarin!!! I've wanted to ride it ever since I saw it advertised. I tell my husband "Where eles can we go to satisfy our DD11 and our DD3?" princess: princess:

I love it that there are loads of people walking around who aren't "interested in Disney". More magic, shorter lines and less crowds for me.
