...whenever I see it I just chuckle and think "isn't that the whole point of going on a water ride...to get wet?...even a little?"

...I surely can't be the only one here :boat:

I think its an age thing-I no longer enjoy walking around with wet feet or worse wet knickers(underpants to you! :rotfl2: ) I seem to be a water magnet on Kali river rapids-I think its cos I'm calorifically challenged, my side of the boat seems to be lower.... :rotfl2: :rotfl2:SM is never a problem, cos I go alone I get two seats to myself so can sit in the middle thus reducing the chance of getting wet.

The very worst i've ever been on is the rapids ride at Busch gardens-no handy bin in the middle to put your bag in-I was drowned and water was pouring out of my bag-not a problem except that my passport was in there. I really expected to be arrested at passport control for having a soggy passport!

Getting a little wet is okay, but if you get soaked and the weather is chili or you're wearing jeans wet clothes are very uncomfortable. The only ride I wear a poncho for is Kali. If I recall correctly it's the only ride I've seen where you can buy a poncho before you get in line. :rotfl:

do they say undertrousers too?? just wondering

No-females wear pants or knickers, males wear underpants. We don't have undertrousers :rotfl2:

I wear a poncho on many water rides (not necessarily SM). I don't mind getting wet, just don't want to be soaked. Even with a poncho you do get a little wet. I also think it's probably an age thing or an "I don't want to walk around with wet underpants thing". :umbrella:

I have worn a poncho when it's cold & I don't want to walk around wet, but I still want to experience the attraction.

If it 90 degrees thats fine. The last thing I want is to walk around the park when it 50's and there's a cold wind and your dripping wet.

I agree the fun of the ride is getting wet. We were there in December of 04. Never took off my winter coat. Avoided all water rides.

I contemplated buying a poncho to wear on Kali on our last trip. My kids wanted to ride & I did not want to 'cause my idea of fun doesn't involve wearing wet jeans in January. I ended up riding without one and there wasn't a dry place on me afterwards. I was wishing I had worn a poncho!
:wave2:

It depends what park I am at really if I am at IOA or Busch we usually take a change of clothes go on all the wet rides first then get changed!
We go in September so usually it is hot so I just wear flip flops on kali etc then get soaked :thumbsup2 I just can't stand walking around in soggy socks and shoes :sad2:

I totally agree it depends on the ride and how wet the ride is. Popeye ride at IOA always soaks us. I had to buy a new top a few years ago cos i had a white strappy top on and - you guessed it- no bra! SO embarrassing . I disagree with it being worse in the cold, when it's hot and humid wet clothes are uncomfortable. Don't mind if we do water rides last before going home though, then i'll go all out to get soaked :teeth:

I always laugh. Especially when it's the whole family that's doing it.

princess:  Hi,that's me the princess who wears a poncho on Kali River Rapids. So, it's a vanity thing and a comfort thing with me.
I want to enjoy all the great rides and still look as good as possible while sweating and so forth and also walking around with wet undies not my thing. Yes, yes I know it's vain but, I'm a girl and proud that I have issues.
So when you see me in Dec. delicate like a flower and holding my poncho over my hair so it doesn't get wet....go ahead and laugh cause it's okay I'm laughing to and having a great day at Disney! :cool1: :sunny: :hippie:

I wear them on any water ride. I hate walking around wet! or being wet. my family calls me hydrophobic, but I like to ride on the rides. I am the one that never fails to go under the falls on Kali and comes off drenched and I would be miserable all day 'cause no matter how hot it takes for ever to dry in Florida.

We never wear ponchos on the water rides, although we always have them in our bag. We just figure it's part of the attraction. Not sure about the age issue though - we're in our mid-40's and just don't care about being wet for the rest of the day. We've certainly left enough puddles after Kali River Rapids to attest to that. Of course, we don't go on a wet ride if it's colder. Although there was that one time on Splash Mountain on Christmas Eve at night and it was extremely cold but the line was short. We did it anyway. And got wet!

I don't laugh at people who wear the ponchos. It's just how they want to experience the attraction.

We love to get wet so no ponchos for us.

The ones that tickle me are the ones worn during a 3D show for that spraying of water, and I have seen it.

Put me in for another one that does not appreciate getting soaked on a water ride. Yes, I agree with the original poster that you have to expect to get wet on these rides and that can be fun on a hot day, but for me at least, a sprinkle is one thing, but soaked is totally a different story.

When we went to DL 2 summers ago, we went on the pirates of the Carribean and I had been on Pirates many times in WDW and getting wet is never an issue. I know you are probably all saying, one would never need a poncho for that ride. I know, you never see ponchos on that mild ride, HOWEVER, ds, dh, and myself got so wet from water coming in our boat when we went down one of those little drops. We had lunch reservations right after at the Blue Bayou and I was SO uncomfortable all during lunch because my shorts were soaked! No, when we went on Pirates in WDW last summer I did not wear a poncho, of course, and everything was fine as usual. But from now on, when I go on one of the attractions where you know you will get soaked I def. wear a poncho. I know some people look at me and say "whimp", but I want to be comfortable for the rest of my park visit.

More power to all of you who grin and bear it and if you want to laugh at me, go ahead, I can take it, after all I will be in a good mood because I am not getting soaked. :teeth:

For me personally I LOVE the water rides (heck I love all rides -except Dinosaur), and I HATE being wet all day, and especially having WET shoes. I bring a pair of cheap flip flops to wear on water rides too, that way when I get off the ride I dry my feet and put them back in my nice dry runners.

I wear a poncho, too. I got soaked once in January on Kali River rapids and froze for half the day. And the chafing :sad2: from the dampness! That ruined the rest of the week. I'm not even that big but things rub when you're walking around and it hurt!

I'm now a poncho convert and I'm much more comfortable :cloud9: !

Poncho wearin' girl over here!

Kali River Rapids DOES get you soaked....Doesn't it? Last time we went on that ride....Our DD's were wearing ponchos (*They* didn't want to get wet). I was wearing a bathing suit & My DH braved it....So, Most of us were prepared! Turns out we were the ONLY ones who Didn't get wet! Everyone else got DRENCHED! (I got sprayed a little by someone shooting the spray guns or whatever you call them-Not too bad!) The water was So Cold & at the end of the ride it seemed like all of a sudden there was a cool breeze in the air. (This was in Feb.) I felt so bad for everyone else....they were So Uncomfortable. One girl, maybe about 9 or so started to cry :sad1:

SO, as far as our family goes....We Do wear ponchos, All of Us Sometimes! Mainly when it's too cold out to get wet....we still want to go on & enjoy the rides. We still know how to have FUN ponchos & All! OP-I do agree with you, however, about the rides being better when you get wet while on them....for me it depends on the weather & only if I have some dry clothes to slip into later!....At Sea World a couple wks ago, it was warm....We decided to do Journey to Atlantis (minus our ponchos). It was a Blast! Actually my butt got soaking wet when I Just went to Sit Down on this ride - The seat had a HUGE puddle! I was prepared! I Got SOAKED! Loved every minute of the ride BUT afterwards was Very uncomfortable....That's ok though, just changed & we went on our merry way!

Anyhow, I know I ramble sometimes (It's a gift:)) Just remember if you see a Poncho Family decked out in their "gear" - Please, Don't laugh, Be Kind! :) Remember, most of us wear them for a good reason & We Still know how to have FUN! :woohoo:
