I have had some success helping to reunite familes with their relatives who are missing because of Katrina, but not lately.

I have been looking for Lucille Besnard for two weeks and Onelia Cherrie for about 5 days - two grandmothers who both disappeared during the Katrina Evacuation.
Yes, I've spoken to the Florida Hospital Association, Louisiana Hospital Association, Louisiana Nursing Home Association, LSU HealthCare Services, at least 20 or 30 individual hospitals in Tennessee & Texas & Georgia, FEMA, American Red Cross, the Sean Hannity Show, the offices of Senators George Allen/John Warner/Vitter/Landrieu/ Representative & Speaker of the House Hastert/Representative Tom Davis plus others, written e-mails to various media outlets, searched the websites of: katrinaunite.com, Arkansas Evacuee Info(Arkansas KARE), Baton Rouge Shelters, CNN Safe List, Craig's list, Houma Shelters, katrinasafe.com, katrinalist.net, publicpeoplelocator.com, combed through the various Katrina photos posted on the Internet to see if I recognized anyone in the pictures and on and on and on.

What some don't seem to realize is that it's been almost FOUR weeks since some of these people were last seen by their families. Lucille was last seen on August 31st by a nurse in a hallway at the notorious Methodist Hospital, immediately prior to airlift out. Onelia Cherrie's case is also poignant. She and her family made it TO the Louisiana Convention Center, made it OUT of there to the New Orleans International Airport only to get separated at the last minute during their exodus from the airport on September 3rd. She's a grandma, for goodness' sake, as is Mrs. Besnard.

I have a few new things left to do, every day I make my rounds of the various Katrina websites and there are some leads that I've started...I suppose we'll see if they amount to anything within the next few days.
I keep on asking myself...If my husband or my daughter or my mother were missing, what would I do? Would I 'scorch the earth' to find them? Would I have no fear in calling & e-mailing some of the most powerful people in this country?

Would ANYTHING stop me until I found my family?
I think *not*.

Please continue to keep the families who still have missing loved ones in your thoughts and prayers.

Someone somewhere *knows* where these people are. And I don't mean that in a paranoid sense...
It's just that if these two ladies are alive, then someone knows that. Someone is taking care of them. Someone has told authorities that these woman are at their nursing home or hospital or special needs shelter... the sad thing is that the information, *whatever it is*, is not making its way to the originating hospitals or nursing homes or whatever, the information is not making its way to the families who are frantic with worry.
These two women did not just walk off, neither one of them could even walk very well, they didn't and coudn't run away.

Somebody knows the truth, whatever it is and all the families deserve to know as well.

All the missing should be brought home.

I understand agnes.

They also aren't the only 2 :( :( and alot of other families are experiencing the same pain. Such as the mother who couldn't find her toddler daughter for 3 weeks.

Good luck in finding them.

I'm very sorry.

Because of religious aspects, I doubt we'll ever see this...but if we can ID chip our pets, considering how many families were seperated, including children so young they had no way of knowing who they are, why can't we ID chip people? It seems that just basic info, like name and SS# on file would be beneficial.

Chip people? That seems kind of creepy to me.

I don't kow why it would be more creepy than the practice of issuing a SS# for every child over the age of 1. SS# are used to identify us for everything from credit ratings to taxes to death benefits. Chipping would simply mean that changing ones identity for illegal purposes would be more difficult, and would make positive ID much easier.

Implanting humans--NO WAY!

They do have on the market bracelets with GPS that you could get---less invasive and TEMPORARY. That would be a cool way to track evacuees.

But no way am I placing a chip in my child.....when one day--her every whereabouts could be recorded until she is dead.

NO WAY!!!

While you would only have the best intentions of helping people. We never know what or who might be in power in the future and would not use this information for good but to hurt people. Remember Hitler placed #'s on people to keep track of them.

It's just too dehumanizing and "big brother" to start implanting people. I'm personally not thrilled with the idea of doing it to animals even though I understand why it's done. But people? No way.

How about the chips that doctors are now proposing to all your info, including your medical history. Of course, they would be in a credit card that is carried with you. Why is it less "dehumanizing" if the chip is in a card where it could be lost rather than injected or attached to the body.

Remember, it is already the law in most states that we carry ID, and present it whenever asked to do so by a peace officer, if not we are subject to arrest if they choose to enforce it.

Databases already contain our spending habits, our insurace info, our credit rating, what cars we own, our travel habits...most of that info is tied, one way or another, to our SS#. It is just different entities that have access to it under "privacy" laws.

Just had some news from her son about one of my two missing grandmas last night, but not the news that I had been praying for.

I guess she *is* home now, it's just that her home is with the angels.

I go many places without id. If I am going for a walk around the neighborhood--I am not going to get cited for not having identification. The only time you need it is when you are driving a car or other things that require it. going out and just being....you don't need it.

That being said--with evacuations and such, it can be easily forgotten sometimes..especially if you are trapped in your home, or just happen to lose it in transit.

And the difference between carrying a card and having a chip implanted. At anytime you can put the card down. The chip is permanent. The government cannot force you to do things with your body. If you don't wish to have a card--you can find a doctor who doesn't use that if it is too invasive.

Agnes, sorry to hear about one of the ladies. :( :grouphug:

I'm sorry that it turned out this way  but at least they now know. That has to be some comfort after all this time! Thanks for helping to find these ladies!

Agnes - I think what you are doing makes you an angel. I just saw a news report about a poodle being re-united with his amputeed owner and I just cried and then went to the ASPCA webiste and donated money to the disaster fund.

Thanks tone.def.

I don't feel particularly angelic today, just frustrated from doing battle with bureacracies. Yesterday I started phoning up individual nursing home members of the Louisiana Nursing Home Association. I've heard recently of a very few undientified people turning up at the homes, yet not being listed on the LNHA website resource. I'm splitting up calling all the homes with another person...there are about 250 member homes to call.
I'm actually looking forward to going on a Confirmation retreat with a bunch of 6th and 7th Graders tomorrow! It'll be good to take a break from the computer :badpc: and the phone calls :chat: .

If anyone lives where there are evacuees or maybe you're around hospitals or nursing homes, PLEASE take a look at this 'Missing' Poster-link. Onelia Cherrie might be in *your* town...
