I've noticed listings to rent 'villas' on Airbnb. For example, someone put 'Busy Christmas week at Grand Floridian ' up, he lives in Orlando.
Is this permitted and is this a regular thing?

Bookings are first come, first served. What you do with your booking (use it, rent it) is your business.

But the law of supply/demand would suggest that it’d be a week that would fetch a premium for the same reason its popular here.

DVC has no legal right to dictate that you can’t rent a reservation. First, your right to do so (non-commercially) is part of your POS. More importantly, that’s a reflection of Florida Law. As an owner of the property during the times that you are booked, you have the rights of an owner. That includes the right to rent.

I can understand why somebody could be upset about an owner taking a prime week out of availability in order to rent it.

But.

At the end of the day, what he does with his booking shouldn’t matter to you anymore than what you do with yours should matter to him.

More to the point, the only way to regulate it would be to meddle in people’s reservation intentions in ways that would mess with everyone. I don’t want to regulate what airBNB stranger does with his points because I don’t feel like I should have to justify my intentions with MY points.

not only can he/she do what they want with their reservation. |They are the ones on the hook if there is damage done. This is taking a risk to one that I would not feel comfortable with. There are too many stories out there about airbnb places being destroyed. If the owner of the points rent that way, it is them not the renters that are on the hook. too risky.

Now, there are stories about people renting their RCI trade ins to DVC out. That’s forbidden. If caught, the result can be cancellation without recompensation.

But I doubt a Dec VGF reservation is RCI. Or, if it is, that’s a different kind of problem.

Sure, no different than redweeks, ebay or DIS. Renting is specially allowed with limitations on extreme volume.

I know renting is allowed, just didn't realise people were putting them up on Airbnb, never seen it before, and wasn't sure how DVC would see that. Good to know thanks.

They can’t stop it but I agree with earlier poster that’s not how I would line up a renter.

Surprised to hear airbnb allows timeshare rentals.

The DVC contract says you can rent but they won't help you find a renter. There is no limitation on how you do that.

There would be a lot of issues listing a confirmed reservation on airbnb, really, although for now it's still permitted. The issue some might run into is the cancellation policies.

What was the asking price? More than rack rate? (Asking for a "friend".)

Just check out redweek! Some people aren’t even discreet about it! There are tons on there! Some of them list the “Resort Fee” at check-in which is a dead giveaway that it is exchange and is absolutely against RCI policy! There is a guy on there that lists under different names and initials that doesn’t list the “Resort Fee”. I don’t know when he decides to let his renters know that they will have to pay that after his exorbitant price! He only does that so as to not alert RCI that he is renting out an Exchange and he has several DVC properties listed! If you ask him about the fee he will tell you but doesn’t list it. He cost me my stay on property 2 years ago! I notified RCI and they are aware of it. I just notified them again. They have told me that they take this matter very seriously. I just don’t understand why they have not pulled his privileges.
