People of the Park

I didn't really think that they were all that funny.
The tray on the bathroom floor was a bit odd but some of the people just looked like everyone else I see in the park.

Is it wrong that I thought some of those sweat suits were cute? :thumbsup2

The pics of the overweight couple on their scooters are very mean spirited. Those two pictures, in particular, bothered me quite a bit.

Bothered me too Nikki :sad2:
As someone who's been fighting weight most of my life , it really ticks me off that it still perfectly acceptable for people to make fun of bigger folks :sad2:

I think that the people who post there, and laugh at the pictures, should take a good, hard look at themselves, and imagine how they'd feel if someone took pics of them and posted them somewhere with the intent to make them a laughingstock.

::yes::

I'll be honest and say I've made more than a few comments while at the parks about some fashion choices I've seen, but I sure wouldn't take a picture and post it on the internet. :sad2:

Just in case no one in this thread has seen my comments that I posted in the other thread that I found first.....

While I love the People of Walmart website, I have to say that I am not too thrilled with the People of the Parks site for Disneyland guests. Thankfully, I didn't see myself on there, but I am sure that some of my tourist attire could land me there, well, that and being obese and using an ECV. Count me out on liking this one too because they seem to have major attitude issues with those that don't care for them. Have you read their Hate Mail section? Have you read their Blog section?

People of Walmart may have more rude comments, but at least the people that run it do seem to have some sense of right and wrong that the People of the Parks folks just don't have. I won't be bookmarking it.

There have been threads with pictures similar to this here on the boards long before the People of the Park site came around.

Though people don't have control over their face and body type, fashion is a choice.

If I chose to wear neon green pants or wear rainbow suspenders with a kilt and plaid socks, I would expect to draw funny looks and end up on the site.

Many of the pics left me shrugging, saying "Yeah, so? It's not THAT strange":confused3

Internet bravery always amazes me. The people who post on that site are of weak character and petty. If you confronted them face to face for taking your picture in the park I'm sure they would run away. Small minded people need to belittle others to make themselves feel better about how pathetic they are. It's just another form of bullying. I hate bullys.

He is not necessarily internet intelligent. His site is listed in the whois lookup, and while he blasts people in the hate mail section for not using a real name, neither does he. I looked him up on facebook & he is a kid, I'm sure he'll grow out of it.

What Would Walt Say?? would he think this is funny? i dont think he really envisioned people coming in his park so people could make fun of them later, it goes against EVERYTHING that Disney is about. EVERYONE is supposed to be a kid at a Disney park, and its not cool to be making fun of them. If you are so bored in the park that you need to find people and take pictures of them so you can make fun of them later, you spend TOO much time in the parks. Its supposed to be about the things in the park, the attractions, the shows, the great cast member, not for making fun of others. just my opinion...

I personally do not get dressed in the morning before hitting a park thinking 'hmmm, will this outfit make me ridiculed on the internet?!?' :confused3

No, they do not ask for this, they do not deserve this. No matter what people wear does not make them a target for ridicule! As long as it doesn't breach Disney protocol as inappropriate, then it shouldn't bother you. Your standards should not dictate other people's!

I wear some things in the parks I would not wear at home (fanny pack to name one) so I do not find thesevery funny at all. I agree when I am in WDW I go for comfort not fashion. Not funny at all!

I am heartened by the responses from DISers on this thread.

I wonder if a non-DISer took a photo of Todd wearing his tiara and pink Crocs?

I'm not even going to dignify this site by giving it another page hit. I just want to say that I don't understand why people have to be so petty and mean. Who cares what other people look like? I just don't get it. I was pregnant during my last trip to Disney and I gained weight all over while I was pregnant so I just looked kind of fat. Also my feet swelled up so big that I had to buy a pair of Crocs just to have shoes to wear. Does that somehow mean that I should now be ridiculed? For all I know my pic is on that site. I seriously don't get it.

A PP mentioned American Idol. I also don't watch that show because I think a lot of it is just mean-spirited. I don't care to see people have their dreams crushed.

Maybe I am just too sensitive. Or maybe it is because I am Southern Appalachia born and raised and have heard too many people make fun of the South and Southern accents and hillbillies. It really makes you think about people being mocked when a group you identify with is one that is often mocked itself.

Just found it mean spirited.....anything that would make the person in the posted pictures uncomfortable is just mean.
I have seen humorous park pics before....think uncomfortable shoes, that was amusing, but this site is just sad.

I also have to disagree with the comments on the people of walmart as well.

This is the EXACTLY the same as the Disney park people site.

It is still making fun of people and the way they look.

It shouldn't make it ok, because it is a supermarket as opposed to a Disney Park.

If you're like 95% of us, chances are you won't be ridiculed.
Some of the people here and at the Wal-Mart site have to know that what they are wearing is not exactly the norm.
If they are truly eccentric they don't care what others think, so having their picture up wouldn't bother them.

I've seen some real characters in the parks. One guy with big ears wore a tux with red pants and a yellow tie. Another wore a sailor suit and hat, but no pants! People were even getting their picture taken with them.

I like your sense of style. Especially if it would entail an Electric Blue shirt with the Neon Green pants. And a Hot Pink belt. With glossy white patten leather shoes. Anybody know where I can get clothes from the 90's???

And yeah, I thought the same thing. What's weird with that outfit?

I wonder if a non-DISer took a photo of Todd wearing his tiara and pink Crocs?

I nearly expected it...

This is stupid.

I can see both sides of the argument. On one hand if there's someone wearing something really strange of course they're going to get some weird looks, and possibly get posted online. That stuff happens all the time.

But seriously. Who the *heck* would spend their time in the parks just picking out odd people to take pictures of? Some local with loads of cash to burn and too much time on their hands?

Get. A. LIFE.

I'm fairly certain that there is a special place for people who photograph, post and then ridicule a group of challenged adults out for a good time at Disneyland.

The people doing this are scum.

Plain and simple.

Now this makes me want to go to Disney wearing vibrant colors. Neon pink pants, Neon green shirt and those light up shoes.

Haha, right.

Sometimes people go too far with creating these sites to post pictures of people and make fun of them. Sad.

I know it should probably just be ignored, but I'm wondering if there's anything we could actually do in this case. Not write in hatemail, but rather place a complaint with the site's host server. I was trying to find out the webhost on my own, but to no avail.

I'm usually very laid back about most things, be it politics or religion or whatever have you. But this just totally rubbed me the wrong way for some reason. I'm finding it hard to look the other way. *sigh*
