People mover refurb announced!

I would be disappointed about people mover if I were attending the 24 hour MK Night. It sounded like a 4am or so pm ride would take you through a closed SM fully lit for daily checks.

People mover is closed from May 3 to July 1 for a refurbishment.

Astro orbitor is closed May 3 thought August 20.

I'm curious to see what they'll do??

That is my favorite ride and I will miss not going on it in May. We always go on it a couple of times during the day to relax our feet and just enjoy the ride. What a bummer.

Our last day in the parks is July 1st. Sure hope the People Mover opens 1 days sooner.

Great so two rides that are a big deal to my motion sickness daughter, on top of the boats being removed from POR. Fun. Aren't they also expending the hub....so Wong that cause issues. With the new ride opening, anything closed will just move those crowds to more popular rides.

Everything needs rehab at some point or another and obviously since they are open year round it will have to inconvenience someone.

The Astro Orbiter doesn't get to your motion sickness daughter? I always take Dramamine before any day at any park because I hate things that spin. I'm looking at you Teacups. :crazy2:

No and neither does dumbo. But she is uncomfortable on pirates, splash, pooh, she is also sensory so no splashing water either. Not sure why bc I have no motion sickness issues and love roller coasters. But yes other rides wouldn't bother me. Yes things need to be down at some point and two trips we lost the tea cups. But this is two rides down not one. I wouldn't care so much if I was just astro orbiter, but it is two she really enjoys. We skip tea cups in the past. She does take Dramamine but still says she gets a headache and feels green.she prefers to kiddie, slower rides like little mermaid, spaceship earth, memo. Btw she dislikes JIYI too bc of the blast of air at the end. Also we go with rides with shorter lines bc she does not do well in long lines. Those two if done right usually have shorter waits.

My thoughts too when I read that post, lol, but I see the explanation for it. Done Astro Orbiter once and it was one time too many for me. I was about 10 seconds away from sharing some magic ;) with everyone else up there :scared:

Lillykat, would a DAS perhaps help you on this trip?

Hall of Presidents is a winner, dark, air conditioned, and a good 20 minutes long :rotfl2::rotfl2:

CoP is even longer if you are really tired. Especially when people want to just get up and walk out and you have to repeat an entire scene just one more time ... :rotfl:

Beginning of August is still busy and end of November brings Thanksgiving. Also, the end of Oct. is now a very highly traveled time. Remember all those "It's so crowded" reports?

March through June would include college spring breaks as well as Easter breaks. Ouch, those are some of the busiest times of the year for WDW, even busier than summer months. And of course by June the parks are at summer capacity.

But those months have spikes at certain periods. They're not jammed to the gills the entire time. The time they picked will be jammed all 4 months.

~Ugh.... not the People Mover????? Wahhhhh! That sucks -- I didn't even care when Space Mountain and BTMRR was down for a refurb but the People Mover really hurts. I might have to play around with our dates again. Thanks for the update.

Oh no! :( TTA is one of our favorite attractions and DD's must-do first and last of every trip.

Woo hoo people mover will be back up when we get there! (Hopefully :) )

I'm not sad about Orbiter....blech

Bummer! It isn't going to kill our trip or anything, but like a previous poster, I use the People Mover as "my" Space Mountain! Lol

I don't do coasters, so I ride the people mover while DH and the kids do the mountain.

Oh well!

It's possible that there are other factors involved besides timing the refurb to disappoint the fewest park guests.

Disney may feel, for example, that it could not delay the repairs until a slower season without compromising the ride performance or safety.

Or perhaps the availability of the contractors and materials necessitated a certain timeframe (less likely, but who knows?)

Anyway, the PeopleMover is one of my favorites and I look forward to seeing it in a new pristine condition!
