People Mag source on WDW

Actually - if the "federal law enforcement source" is telling the truth - that's exactly what he was doing as the quote from the article states:

Omar Mateen and his wife, Noor Zahi Salman, visited Walt Disney World in April, the source says. Salman told federal authorities on Sunday that her husband had more recently been "scouting Downtown Disney and Pulse [nightclub] for attacks."

While I think the investigators must prove this to be true or false before I form an opinion, if this woman knew that he was scouting these locations for attacks and did not alert authorities then, she's complicit with his crime and would face considerable charges/punishments as such.

People magazine are a horrid organization who have published articles of this type in the past in order to sell copies. I wouldn't trust them.

Orlando Sentinel, a much better source IMO, says the FBI told them they are investigating every lead but they in no way confirmed the validity of the People report about Disney.
I agree. I briefly heard wdw mentioned on ABC news last night. I have not heard it on WFTV Orlando or the daily briefings from local authorities and local FBI. There is still an ongoing investigation that may take weeks.

I read an article from USA Today that said the same thing. I think People made a connection on its own and isn't reporting 100% factually.

I've read on other message boards about the threats for Orlando parks (MK specifically) going back to last fall, but that threat seems unrelated to what happened on Sunday.

This story was on The Today Show this morning about him visiting WDW in April with his current wife. I believe they said he visited on April 26th. It was unclear whether he was "scouting it" for a possible target or whether it was just a social visit. They did have an official statement from Disney that they posted and read during the segment talking about all of Disney's security measures currently in place. Sounds like they do all they can and then some! But still, no place is ever 100% safe.

I've always thought of Disney as the softest of soft targets and just assumed it's always being scouted by someone looking to do maximum damage. Having said that I have never stayed away for that reason and I always feel safe there. It is no accident that Orlando's trauma center was so well equipped to deal with the shooting tragedy. They are constantly training for the Disney Disaster that could one day befall them. Now wasn't that a dismal post? Sorry, but I think it's probably close to the truth.

We are going in a few days. Does anyone know if there is a memorial-type area where people are laying flowers? I would like to do this with my kids so that we can pay our respects to the victims and their families.

Boy did we dodge the bullet. Just heard on the news this terrorist was casing out Disney!!

WOW ........... maybe this post would best be deleted.

That said the facts are still all coming together and we don't know that any of this is true.

So the article says she told the agents on Sunday, yet as of yesterday still they were stating that she is refusing to cooperate, which implies this is just a "story" from a "source." We don't know where all this is coming from and if he was there we don't know the exact reasoning. Lots keep coming out about this person's behavior over years.

And I agree, if she admits that she was with him while he was doing it or that she was aware .... and did not make a call to someone, she is part of the crime. She'd best be served by keeping her mouth shut, even without a criminal charge she could be liable for civil charges. His family's story/interview has been very suspicious.

Give the LAW agencies time to sort, investigate and determine facts before spreading the sensational journalism.

WE DON'T HAVE ENOUGH INFO other than hearsay to come to any conclusion other than hate and evil exists. Many wonderful people including Disney & Universal employees have been affected and lost to the community. Can we not just feel their pain? and not be discussing how lucky we are......

I see NO point to this thread other than to sensationalize a horrible event
and perpetuate the "stories" that will come out of it - and would prefer it be locked.

I was think about Disney Springs today and how easy it would be for someone to go there and just get onto Disney Bus Transportation to a Resort. They will really have to start cracking down on security in the Downtown area where a lot of locals come and go in that area as well as start beefing up the security to make sure only Disney Resort Guests get onto the buses.

But the buses aren't only for the use of Resort Guests. I can park at TTC, and visit a park or go to any of the places the bus goes, even if I don't have a ticket. I don't think Disney is really interested in stopping that because they like allowing people to go and spend their money anywhere on Disney Property, with or without a dining reservation, park ticket or hotel reservation.

I'm confused - were 2 threads merged or something? When I responded last night the title was Orlando shooting and 1st post was the "dodged a bullet post"

I disagree. I think Disney is doing everything they can to allow massive casualties.

1 suicide bomber can kill hundreds at the MK without going through security. The security checkpoints are a perfect kill zone. Just imagine a bomb going off at the bag check about 8 people back from the security officer.

Disney and the rest of the world needs to find a way to keep people from congregating at security checkpoints.
I hate to say it, but that's basically what the bag check is for. It's designed to make a possible attacker do one of three things: flip out at the level of security and retreat, start getting fidgety which draws the attention of the undercover security around the checkpoint, or do their deed there as opposed to inside the park where the attack could be even more devastating.
