Hi, some of you may be aware that I booked a trip to the MouseHouse for me and TWO friends for June next year. This morning I got a message off one of them to say that they wouldn't be coming. I don't know what to do???

We were all staying in one room at ASMO's and we have paid the deposit. So if I can't find someone to come along in this girls place does this mean that if I cancel a third adult they will just take off the flight and the fuel and the extra adult surcharge???

I don't know what to do in situations like this.....Ive never booked/cancelled/planned my own holiday abroad before.

Hi, did you book with VH? I looked into this as I booked for my sister to come with us next year however as it will be unlikely she will be able to come as she will be in year 13.

I was told by VH that the person who is removed from the booking will lose their deposit (£120). Even though they will remove the cost of the person dropping out, You MIGHT be charged extra in room supplements so the cost per person may rise slightly.

If you find someone else you will most probably have to pay an admin fee to change the name on the booking.

the girl who has dropped out has offered to pay the deposit that she hasn't yet paid but i will also be pressing her for any admin/cancellation charges incurred as these will be as a result of her decision to drop out...im praying she doesn't make life too expensive for me and Laura

TCD....i've just read their cancellation and amendments policy and it seems that we can cancel one person/rename one person if we find an alternative but obviously not without the associated costs.

Also i've read about even changing a name for a flight can be classed as a cancellation and rebooking...does this mean that if we found someone else to go we would have to pay for 4 flights??

No, assuming that you have just paid a deposit (which is the impression I get), you would just loose the deposit and pay any cancellation fees for the person cancelling (you wouldn't pay the FULL cost of their flight...). Any new person would pay a new deposit and start from scratch.

It is worth trying to see if you can find another 3rd person - and trying to change your 3rd person's name - before cancelling the 3rd person (and later adding a 4th (or new 3rd) person). If that makes ANY sense! ;). Might work out cheaper...

The person who is cancelling on you should pay ANY costs associated with her cancelling (that is only fair). To be honest, you should always really get a deposit from everyone BEFORE you book (makes things clearer is anyone needs to cancel later on...) :).

Hope that you sort this out. Best wiches,
Boo

thanks for your help....i would have got the deposit before booking but aat the time I thought (stupidly in hindsight) that with it only being £11 each to secure the booking it wouldnt matter even if I had to write that £11 off eventually.

I think I have actually got a third person who can come and who I know can pay up....at least i'm hoping so. I'd definately rather do that than cancel the place completely seeing as we're paying only a third adult supplement for the third person, meaning the room would work out far more expensive between two of us.

Thanks for everyones help on this, I seem to making progress in my understanding of what needs to be done and what it will cost, I was just shocked to get the message that I would have to deal with any kind of cancellation/alteration after things had gone smoothly so far.

i had the same problem as you a couple of years ago a friend of mine dropped out at 1 weeks notice he paid the full holiday price luckily and i thought i wouldn't be able to get anyone to come on a free holiday at that late notice due to work commitments and spending money but luckily my friend managed to get some time off work and come with us.
She paid the booking ammendments and my son got trated to lots off stuff by her on our holidays and i got a few free meals out off it aswell so it all ended up fine.
I personally think that if you can get somebody else to go and ask your friend if she could pay the fees to change the names

yeah she's already offered to pay her deposit, but i will be telling her that the fees need paying by her too, and then if I can get a third person to come their deposit is already paid, which could mean the difference between someone else affording it or not....

I'm glad things worked out for you and it's nice to know that there are success stories behind what, in this case at least, is a bitter disappointment. Even if it does end up being just the two of us I know we'll have an amazing time (and a lil bit more space too) but everything we had planned so far was for three of us. I suppose I'm lucky this has happened so far in advance because we're not liable to lose any of the money we've already paid even if she does cancel.

You have already had sound advice and I have got nothing new to offer. Just wanted to say I hope everything works out well for you, and that you get someone else to share your trip. :goodvibes

Sara. :)

Hope everything works out ok for you :)

I just had a thought! - you could try and find someone with the same name as your friend - then you wouldn't need to cancel or change the ticket

yeah good luck and i'm sure you will have a great holiday!!! :Pinkbounc

thanks, i know we'll have a great time whatever happens but it's just such a shame cos the three of us have been really close friends and we would have been celebrating 2 years to the day since we all first met whilse in florida (also, conveniently independence day!!!)

Thanks to everyone who has offered advice :) I think I know what I'm doing now

Well I'm waiting to hear off the only possible person i'd be willing to take in place of Laura (girl who dropped out), but last night when I was explaining it all to her, and showing her the costs she seemed very enthusiastic! Of course it helps that her deposit will already be paid!
