People Affected by Sandy

If your child's school is not closed for spring break, will you still travel?

  • Yes. I have a trip planned to WDW and will pull the kids out of school to go.

  • No. I had a trip planned to WDW but will not take the kids out of school.

  • No. I did not plan to travel this year anyway.

  • Yes but we are going elsewhere - not to WDW.

I just saw an article regarding the fact that some tourism destinations are nervous that Sandy will affect Spring Break travelers. Since much of the North East was affected (devastated in some areas) by Sandy, many schools had closures which will result in a shorter or non-existent Spring Break. It seems that family vacation destinations (including WDW) are fearing a drop in revenue. So my question is:

If your child's school is no longer closed for Spring Break, will you still travel?

I voted that we had a trip, but won't be going.

We had a trip planned for February break, but my husband is a teacher and his district is only approving teachers with non-refundable tickets for personal days. We were driving, so no non-refundable tickets for us. A lot of Long Island districts are canceling or shortening Feb. break. Personally, I think it will be a wasted week anyway. A lot of people will still go on their vacations and teachers will have classrooms that are only half full. If my husband were not a teacher, I would still have gone on with my plans. Like many on the DIS, even though we didn't have non-refundable tickets, we've been planning this trip since last February!:sad1:

We missed 5 days due to Sandy and our calendar has 4 weather days included. It also states which dates get lost due to excessive closures - and they are all Spring Break (and not President's week). We are doing the Disney Fantasy on Presidents Week... so we dodged a bullet.

Not sure what I would do if, like NYC, they were going to miss three days... while the paid in full date is not till Dec 3, we did buy nonrefundable airfare... so we would prob still be going.

If I were in that situation and it was only the kids school days missed, I would still go too! But when it comes to work, you have to do what you have to do.
