Pentax general discussion

Thanks groucho!!!:thumbsup2 I took your advise and everything is fine again. My lens has a button you have to push to set it to "A". I never would have figured that out if i hadn't known it was SUPPOSED to be on the A. Otherwise it just stops at 32.

The user manual is your friend. My DW made me read it cover to cover before she would let me put batteries in the camera!

Glad that I was able to help - the "A" setting is your friend. :)

I willingly downloaded and read the manual of my K-x before it arrived! :rotfl2:

Seems we are in the minority... although I didnt retain all the info that I read, she made me do it regardless.... it was hell... and there are no pretty pictures in it to tell youhow to shoot fireworks or get great bokeh when your subject is 20 feet from you...

Well, I finally bought the Pentax K-7. I also bought the Magic Lantern guide for the K-7. I have no clue what I am doing, but I am very excited to learn. I have read most of the user manual although so many terms are foreign to me. Thanks for the feedback and helping me with this purchase! I hope to not become overwhelmed! :goodvibes

I found that after I read the Magic Lantern for my K10 the manual made sense. Magic Lantern did a better job of explaining the 'lingo' and then I was able to apply it to the manual. Congratulations on your new 'baby'!!!

Count me among those who download and read the manual before actually getting the camera. :)

Congratulations! Welcome to the K-7 Klub. :thumbsup2

In unrelated Pentax news, I just got back some film from my pre-digital Pentaxes... some K1000 stuff with my Zenitar 16mm fisheye and the Lensbaby (I have to admit, it works awfully nice on full-frame)... and a couple rolls from my smallest Pentax SLR:

Not the kind of thing I'll use very often, but sooooo cool on a technical level!

Magic Lantern?????????????????

I actually called them myself and they said they had no plans of making a guide for the Pentax K-x!!!!!! I am certain of it.
I just checked again and even the Pentax forums are saying no guide for the K-X.
Post #97... Are you sure you didn't mean K-7. It has a Magic Lantern Guide. The K-x doesn't as far as I can find. If you know of one please drop me a link, but I haven't had any luck.

They are a series of books by Lark Books specific to individual cameras. I personally refer to as the "owners manual made simple".

http://www.larkbooks.com/mlg

They can be purchased online, Amazon, etc. or at camera stores.

PS In checking the website, they also have DVD's for the cameras.

I was speaking of the K-7 guide, not sure about anyone else.

I keep my ML guide in my bag next to the manual and open it more often than I do the manual... it is simple, easy to understand, fast to find things, and in full color...

So my DW finally let me get Topaz and this is my first shot that I have worked on. Any critiques??

That is beautiful!!!!

Heres a lightning shot to fit underneath and get squashed by the beauty of Cinderallas castle basking in the glow of Wishes!

This is now my desktop!!!! I LOOOOOOOVE THIS PICTURE!!!! Can you tell us how you took it? What you did? Where were you standing? :teacher:

Thank you! That is actually one of my favorite shots that I have done now. What I did was I used my Pentax fish-eye lens and I was actually set up RIGHT against the left side of the partners statue. I then shot at 14mm with ISO 200 f/16 for 6sec. Afterwards, Gdad pointed out to me that horizontally it was not straight so I used photoshop elements to straighten it out, bumped the saturation and contrast up a little in PSE, and then finished off with Topaz. :thumbsup2

This Pentaxian is off on the first leg of the trip tomorrow and we arrive at WDW on Wednesday. We are staying overnight in Milwaukee so we don't have any rushing around on the morning of our flight. This is what we are bringing plus a Pentax P & S (DGD) and another unmentionable P & S!(taken with cellphone) There will be three Pentaxians shooting!!

On the first leg of our trip, we had Magical Pixie Dust Experience before we got to WDW! We arrived at our hotel in Milwaukee (Staybridge Suites) and there was no record of our reservation! Fortunately, I had a printout of the confirmation. The next thing I know Major Upgrade, we are in a two bedroom suite (king and 2 queens), two baths, living room, full kitchen, three flat screen TVs and electric fireplace!!!:yay: The stay included dinner and breakfast in the morning, parking and tranportation to and from the airport. All this for around $100.

Some pics of our suite:

When I first saw this picture i immediately thought it was a fisheye picture. But snce I'm new to all this, I didn't know if it was a fisheye lens or if it had just been doctored on a software. I can see now, I have GOT to get me a fisheye lens!!! :magnify: :bitelip: :hyper: :bitelip: :hyper: :bitelip: :magnify:
I also just decided to bump that fish-eye thread I saw here a couple weeks ago!
