Right when you are about to load onto one of the vehicles, the bamboo style gates that open automatically... I noticed yesterday that in the top opening of the bamboo pieces someone had stuck a penny in it and it fit perfectly.

I rode Indy later and I remembered to grab a penny out of my pocket and I put it into one of the bamboo parts in the gate I was behind. Kinda fun!

When I go I'm going to look and see if all the bamboo pieces eventually have pennies in them!

Add a penny to the bamboo gates on Indy!

I wonder if there is such a thing as a lime green mickey penny??

I do wonder also if the bamboo naturally contracts and expands over the months, due to variations in temp/humidity, etc.... Maybe the pennies eventually fall out. Find a penny pick it up, all the day you'll have good luck.

Or maybe worse yet - maybe they can cause the bamboo to splinter. That might put wear and tear on the gates? I don't know anything about that.

I don't know, I'm totally speculating. I think it sounds fun if it's harmless. I want to hear what other DIS'ers think, too.

We left a penny on the BTMR que up high in a wooden beam after you go through the first turnstile before the stairs leading up to the ride gates. We were surprised someone had found it by the next day, but then we decided that the BTMR trains must have made so much vibration over the course of the day that it might have knocked it loose.

Can I ask why? These kind of things sort of bother me a bit. I think the fence is just fine on it's own and doesn't need pennies in it. To me that's the same as people who carve their name in the bamboo. Honestly did I miss where they said it is cool and appropriate to do stuff like that? Jmo.

Am I remembering right? I dont think its real bamboo, just a metal fence that looks like bamboo.

Not to be too much of a stick in the mud, as I'm sure this discovery was a lot of fun for you, and could provide someone else with just as much entertainment and add to the Disney magic but...

Probably part of the reason Disneyland is so expensive is because they have to employ people to do things we'd NEVER think of, like picking the pennies out of attractions...:upsidedow

It really is harmless and has no negative effect on the ride or the efficiency of the employees. They would be a sinch to pop out but they look good and are hardly noticeable. In fact, it looks better as it covers up the cement middle of the synthetic bamboo chutes.

That is part of the fun as I doubt the CMs would even ever notice it; it is more of a little Disboards thing, a little Dis secret just for fun!

I would be willing to bet next time I go all the bamboo tops have pennies in there!

It is going to happen, it's out there now and won't be stopped!

Have fun with it, that is all it is.

I should have taken a pic, maybe someone in the park or going soon can take a pic or two, I think it would help people realize how fun it is!

Oh, synthetic bamboo chutes. Well then that's not so bad. Unless a little kid or even a bigger kid or an adult is trying to fish it out and gets his or her finger caught as the gate swings open. Actually though, sounds like the penny could prevent a finger from getting stuck in there. I'll watch for pennies next time I'm there. I'll let you know if I find one of your pennies, DoomBugger.

Yes they are synthetic and the pennies only go maybe no more than a half inch down the middle as the cement comes almost to the top. No finger could get caught. Even when the gates open you couldn't get caught up in it, the Indy penny thing is harmless.

Hey it will increase the value of the ride! :lmao:

We need more Disboards "secrets" and things to look for.:thumbsup2

I don't get it either?:confused3 if they wanted pennies there they would of put pennies there.
I have heard, someone does collect the coins that are tossed in all the water attractions and in the wishing well and all the other places people feel compelled to toss coins. It goes to charity so that's great :thumbsup2

But, I still don't get why anyone would want to stick unsightly pennies in bamboo? Doesn't seem to add to the immersion.
Sounds like something I would scold my kids about, :lmao:
To each there own own I guess. :confused3

I agree. People who do these kinds of things make me shake my head. Why can't people just leave things alone and leave the park the way disney wants people to see it? I don't want to see your pennies in the bamboo fence and I don't want to see your named carved in anything. Maybe I'm old fashioned but I think doing things like that is really disrespectful.

i think the people who DONT like it should lighten up. infact im surprised that you even enjoy anything, including disneyland since it seems you dont know what lil harmless fun is. i think its cute. and i would encourage my kids to try it.:snooty:

I wouldn't encourage my kids to do it. Kind of like sticking gum underneath a counter - why put stuff where it doesn't belong?

here it's in Bold so you can read my post
:snooty: :snooty: :snooty: I think people should lighten up on telling people how to feel about Topics :) we can all have our opinion on a Topic :) please don't assume I don't enjoy Disney because I object to certain things. You really have no clue. Maybe I can assume you don't because you think it's cute to deface it. Sounds kind of silly doesn't it?
 here's an idea state how you feel about the topic, not us :worship:

I still think it's unsightly.

I don't enjoy disney because I won't want to litter? Which is basically what that is. Or because I don't think its right to stick gum under the table or do other disrespectful things? Sorry but I enjoy a cleaner disney than a disney filled with random garbage. I wish others respected things they didn't own and had the good common sense not to ruin it for others. To me it looks bad and if I saw them I just may remove them the way I'd remove other garbage.

I still think it's unsightly. [/B]

Yet you have never seen it. Defacing something is damaging it, this is nothing of the sort. If you feel the need to create some false moral high ground then go ahead, take them out.:rotfl:
