Hello all.

My son is a new teacher and would like to provide each of his students with some sort of pencil/storage box to put on the top of their desk. He has 10 students and I would love to buy these for him, but was wondering if any of you have any idea or suggestions that would be inexpensive.

We found some at Target and Walmart. They are clear plastic and come in different colors. I think they were 70 something cents at Target and 60 something cents at Walmart.

Staples has the rectangular ones that snap closed 3 for a dollar through Wednesday. I wouldn't recommend the large flip top kind. I can't tell you how many times students have knocked them off the desk and had everything spilling very loudly all over the floor! I banish those to their lockers until they need the markers, etc in them!

Thanks!

I will be heading to staples then Walmart and Target. He said he just wants something small to hold pencils, crayons etc... The snap top boxes would probably work great.

Just some advice for your son. If you get the plastic kind, don't let the kids keep them on top of their desks except when absolutely necessary. Believe me, the boxes will be on the floor more than on the desks, and the noise gets old very quickly. I don't know what ages his students are, but the younger they are, the noisier it will be! :lmao:

I agree about the noise. My students have to keep their pencil box under their chair!

Well, I have cargo brand pencil box and The graphite is a nice choice if you want a neutral look that will blend with any home office environment. I just think the this ones look very trendy. It’s funny that they are selling a Cargo cassette tape box. They have it labeled as being designed for cassettes and pencils.

At our walmart they were 35 cents and Target was 70 cents.

We did wooden cases for the students and they got to decorate, but they cosst $5 a box, with a slide lid.

The second grade list for our school requested soft zippered pencil cases and specifically said "no plastic". I wondered why, now I know :)

If he can wait till Aug. 28 he can go to Lowes and get the kits for the kids to make.
They have a cute pencil box with a clear sliding lid for the Kids Craft that week. He can have the kids make them during craft time or he can make them himself and let the kids decorate with the stickers they give you with the kits.
Lowes if very good about giving extra kits, I always go with my grandson and bring home a kit for my nephew to make another time since he can't always go with me.
Home Depot is not as good, they will only give you a kit for the kid you have with you that day. but they had a cute school bus shaped pencil holder (no lid, just an open holder) that we made last week. If he wants something like that he can always go to Home Depot and ask if they will give him some for his class.
If he wants to put the pencil boxes on the desk I would recommend either double sided tape (the thick foam stuff that holds strong) or some sticky velcro. The velcro will work good because the kids can move the box when they need to but it won't fall onto the floor when they are moving books around the desk.
