penalty for not cancelling rental car?

I've made and cancelled so many rental car reservations as new rates come out, I'm afraid I'll forget about one.

Anyone been charged for not cancelling a rental car reservation?

They can charge you for not cancelling. The policy differs from company to company.

I know how you feel. I've been keeping a printout of all my ressies, and writing on them when I cancel them. I'm thinking of calling before I leave, and asking if they can read me a list of my ressies, to make sure they're right.

I cancelled my reservations 4 times for my trip last month. Everytime I cancelled, I took a screen print of the cancellation confirmation just in case. I also tried to call up the cancelled reservation #'s to see if they would error (they did).

It can depend on the rental agency too. If they took credit card information when you made the reservation, or if you used a membership program like Emerald Club which has your credit information on file, then yes they can bill you. If you reserved through Dollar or any of the other companies which do not require credit information then they cannot and won't charge you if for some reason you didn't show up.

I know Budget has a fee if not cancelled within 24 hours of rental.
