PeepsII-The Hot, Sweaty Asian Strikes Back. Feb 2010. 12/2-Part 2 has begun.

:rotfl2:
I love the fact that you've got the DIS fired up on your laptop! :thumbsup2

Wow, Jordo - you're such a nice cousin! So willing to take care of the kiddies so Mom & Dad can out and play.

You wanna come with us, too? We don't dare leave the kids with Waldo - he might lose them!

Great catch on the laptop. That corner of the couch is where i do most of my DISing from...

If I could come when you guys were out there, I would most definitely offer up my babysitting services. It's funny. As long as I can make it to either ESPN Club or Atlantic Dance for a few drinks, I'll babysit as long as you want. I like my late nights to enjoy whichever resort I'm at...it's sooo peaceful and honestly, magical....

Chapter 4. Some February 2009 Trip Highlights

I went to China in February of this year. I went to visit some friends who are working over there as teachers. One works in Guiyang in Southern China and the other one works in Beijing. It was great to finally go overseas. I had only been to Baja California and to the Caribbean on a DCL. So this was a real adventure.

Here are some highlights:

This was my room in Guiyang. It's part of an International House for foreign students. It's more like a dorm room. Hey, it was 15 bucks a night....

Not so nice bathroom. Notice no shower door or separate shower. The shower head is on the wall. You close the door and have at it.

We either ate at people's house or ate out at nicer restaurants. It's cheap to eat in China. I paid for 2 meals for 6 people. It was 18 dollars for each meal. Oh and there's no tipping in China. Here's some of the meals we had and some of the things having to do with how food gets to your table......

Chicken Porridge with what I think was Chicken. I mean there was a chicken claw in it:

We had homemade Mexican Food one night. I brought over some tortillas from the States. It even had cheese on it. Cheese is almost non existent in Guiyang.
China2009147.jpg

Here was one of the more expensive meals--Pizza Hut. They look more like Cheesecake Factories don't they?
China2009125.jpg

We ordered Fries and Onion Rings. This is how much we got:
China2009123.jpg

Here's our Pizza. The Grand total for Dinner: 177 RMB or about 20 dollars.
China2009124.jpg

Here's our hotpot meal. They bring you meats and veggies and you cook it in either chicken broth or the VERY, VERY, VERY spicy beef broth:
China2009102.jpg

It's customary in China for meals--You should have one dish for every person attending your dinner and then add one more dish for good measure. A Chinese national made us lunch. There were 7 of us, so we had 8 dishes.

Here are some rules about eating in Guiyang. No raw vegetables. Cook the crap out of your meat. Don't eat anything dropped on a tabletop. Drink only bottled water. Don't buy food from street vendors.

They have a TON of street vendors for food or just little tents with a wok and raw meat and they cook and you eat....

Here's chicken at the WalMart (yes, Walmart).

Here's where you buy your meat. It looks so sanitary doesn't it:

This is where they slaughter your chicken:

You can also buy your produce right next to the butcher:

I'll stop here and continue in the next post

Jordan, your photos are fantastic. I can't wait for more posts on your China trip!

Standing by! :surfweb: popcorn::

Yay! Finally some China pictures.

This is just lovely.

The girl sitting next to the standing little girl looks like she's thinking "WTH?"...except in Chinese.

Fancy Wal-Mart
Here's chicken at the WalMart (yes, Walmart).

:rotfl:I love this guys expression.

The vendor at the counter looks like a meat-head. Sorry, couldn't resist.

What is that in the top right? A clock, or an eye? Or something entirely different.

Those China pictures are super interesting! It's like a whole different world over there. Can't wait to see more.

Hmmm.

After looking at some of those pictures, I'm thinking its a wonder your entire digestive tract didn't get gangrene!

This is just lovely.

You had to wear flip flops to take a shower and you NEVER go barefoot.

I didn't even notice until you pointed it out...:rotfl2::worship:

It's completely different! Some ways better than here, in alot of ways soo not.

I'm joining in on this PTR!

I love your pictures from China!

:welcome:

Thanks..more coming up!

Kathy

I just took an Immodium everyday to do a bit of preventative medicine. I also had to do a Gas-x alot as well. I also had to do Pepto a few times...:rolleyes1

Wow, you had your own "No Reservations" episode! :lmao: I am concerned about those black WalMart chickens.

I have to say that the Pizza Hut looks better than the ones here; looks like homemade crust instead of the premade.

How can they live without cheese?????

That shower.......:scared::scared::scared: I would need a bleach bath to recover from the shower.

I can't imagine having to cook a different thing for each person! My kids are lucky to get the "cheese" with the macaroni.

I think I'd loose alot of weight if I went there.........hmmm, maybe I should take a trip.

I'm not an adventerous eater....so if someone gave me a pot with a chicken foot in it....:scared1:

Wow Great start on the China pics! Really reminds us to be grateful for what we have here, huh?

Yeah for Kim and Allen! You are all going to have so much fun!

Chelsea read your China update with me, and we had quite a few laughs over it especially over the chicken claw comment.

Eeeewwww about the bathroom!!! You needed to adjust your bathroom rating scale for that one!

My favorite comment of Chelsea's: "They just plop the chickens into a bin and call it good???" My poor, insulated American daughter...:rotfl:

Chicken claw soup, black chickens---I think I would be at the Pizza Hut every day! I could tell everyone I was on a special pizza only diet.

So far I'm thinking Epcot China is not so much like real China....

I'm LOVING these China pics. Wow!! What a culture difference. Most of that food looked good to me. Minus the chickens. I'm mostly concerned about the sanitary aspect of that place. :scared1:

So cool Jordan! You were really lucky to get to experience it, thanks for sharing. I am in vicarious traveling heaven between Punkin's New York report and this!:goodvibes
