Peeps 2. The Sweaty Asian Strikes Back. Pt 2. Feb '10. 2/21-Final Chapter. Link to TR

That's a good question.

The last Kodachrome factory closed (I read it in an article on things going obselete this decade). So I would think that it's very hard to get now.
I was able to find plenty of Fuji film for our trip. I wound up shooting 18 rolls of film and took 900ish digital.

My guess is that as long as someone has a processing machine, they will offer to let people pay them to use it. I suppose they may stop making film at some point, but there are a lot of hardcore photogs who won't give up film as long as it's offered. I personally prefer film (medium format quality) but it has become a burden due to cost. I can't compete with all the housewives who buy a 1k digital camera and then never have another expense offering their services as a pro photographer. My medium format camera cost several thousand and it costs me around $20 in materials to shoot 16 frames. I am shopping for digitals but my conflict comes in the form of needing a new point and shoot as well as a pro. I'm not very good at decisions, especially ones that involve money. Sorry, I rambled. You asked. :lmao:
I still prefer film, but I agree with your on the cost. With what I spent in film and processing this trip, I could have been well on my way to a digital SLR. BUT, I just still enjoy working with film more. I just like the softness and grain that you can get and the depth of field is much eaiser to maniuplate than on the digital SLR I've tinkered around with. Next time though, I'll most like go to all digital for most days and maybe just bring a couple of rolls of B&W and High Speed film. (Would love to try infrared as well...see link below.)

As to photo ideas, there are many options out there. Attraction signs, restaurant signs, condiment bars, flowers, fast passes, photo pass photographers, gift shop merchandise, people wearing lime green, hidden mickeys, pressed penny machines, baloons, trasnsporation, ride vehicles, Norway trolls, servers in restaurants, fart poses around The World, karate moves, random singing, birds & ducks, people who look angry, an ode to onions, people who whistle, resort front desks, resort signs, random trash, once I even saw a site dedicated to photos of WDW Survey markers. Or you can do stylistic themes. I did lots of panormaics. I've seen some who do tons of black and white photos. One of the coolest sets I saw was from a photog who did a series of shots with Infrared film.

Are high heels comfortable? and can they be worn all day w/o discomfort?

Depends on what you are doing all day.

For example. I don't recommend power shopping in NYC, after a full day at a trade show, during the holidays, in 4" heels and then walking back to your hotel. I probably put in a solid 12 hours in those heeled boots. Which are pretty darn comfortable all things considered but talk about overdoing it!

I seriously had to get up an hour early the next day, run over to Lord &Taylor and buy some flat boots to wear to my am appointments. I have to say those boots are one of the best investments I ever made!

On the flip side, if it is a good shoe that fits well (and heels notoriously do not, the arch can be off most of the time just enough to be painful) or a wedge and you are just at the office, or out for dinner versus tons of walking, they can be fine for hours. Height does not necessarily mean less comfortable, it really is about how they fit.

Walking up and down hills though is rather difficult.

All of it takes practice.

I can't say I'd wear them to the parks much as my husband might enjoy that. I have been known to wear them to a resort restaurant dinner though! Only if I wasn't doing a ton of walking there, or after. What can I say, I like my shoes. It can be a pain when traveling though. They've been known to require their own suitcase.

omg... I disappear for awhile and when I come back you're onto Part 2 and 57 pages into it already!!! I have so much reading to do :(

Our new teammate that just joined us is Japanese-American (1st gen. immigrated to the US 20 years ago) and doesn't pronounce r at all. "World" is "word". I guess the r/l combo must be hard??

Anway, she says the r is more like something between l and d.

I'll have to try out my new J. word on her, and see if she laughs...

My name will be Mark when I visit Japan.

check out this lady.....

no and no. really, i wear heels a lot for work so i'm used to them. as long as i don't have to stand in them all day, they don't bother me. but when i used to work in a restaurant i would hostess every now and then and when i'd wear heels after about 3 hours straight of standing on them i'd feel like a nail was being driven into my heel. SERIOUSLY. and that's when i was young, like 19, and things like that didn't bother me as much. that's why i can't understand why people would want to wear them to a theme park.

Hmmmm.....very interesting. Thank god men don't have to wear them

oh, i have to share this. you were talking about jodan being "joke" in japanese. it made me think of this girl that used to work with ray. her name was masayo and she was from japan. she had come over here to go to brenau university and she ended up working in customer service at the company ray works at. well, one day she was eating peanuts and ray walked past her desk and she was hunched over, rubbing her stomach. he asked her what was wrong and she just shook her head and said, "too much peanuts." only she didn't say peanuts. with her accent it sounded like something else. take out the T in peanuts. :lmao:

I agree. Sort of a "Things that make you go hmmm ... ."

I also think inappropriate clothing. Being a plus-sized woman, I get embarassed by people (large and small) who wear clothes that are not appropriate for their size or where they are. And, yes, shoes are definitely part of this thinking. I give credit to anyone who can wear heels for any length of time. But to a park, I don't think so.

Oh, and I also love the caption idea. That was a GREAT suggestion.

Jordan, you are far from a jodan.

I'll guess the title of my TR will be Hot, Sweaty Asian makes like a picture taking Peep.

Edit: That's determination finding all those markers!

Those infrared pix are beautiful and kind of spooky at the same time.

If I do my resort tour on my resort transfer day, then I'll have an opportunity to see some of the rarer forms of transpo.:thumbsup2

Do pictures of myself count?;)

I like the Random Acts....If I can catch some Kodak moment type pix!:thumbsup2

Drinks from the World. I like that one too
I like all of the above !!!:thumbsup2

Brazilians. I wonder if it'll be bad in Feb..

The are bad anytime:rotfl2:

you misspelled my name jodan which in japanese means joke.

Does Jodan mean "joke " or Jordan ?????:rotfl2:

Hmmmm.....interesting viewpoint that' different than punkins

Not really. Wearing them while working in a restaurant is murder. BTDT too. Wearing them in retail, equally bad. Bottom line is if you are standing 100% of the time in them for hours, it's bad. Worse if it's on a hard surface.

Of course I think standing barefoot for hours on a hard surface is just as painful in a different way. It's why God invented UGG slippers. So I can survive Thanksgiving in my own kitchen.

:rotfl2:

Flip flops are actually causing more foot problems for people these days, than heels. It's the reverse issue. Too flat with no support versus too arched (with no support).

Yep, guys have it way easier.

I do want to be respectful of people's dignity when taking pix and not have a mean spirit when I'm taking the pix, but I do want to have to camera ready for those..WHAAAAAAT? moments.:thumbsup2

I had the thought bubbles in my last TR. I'm sure those will be popping up again. I love captions too.

Try Rainbow flip flops...they mold to your foot. Very comfortable.

Thank you women for putting up with high heels. :thumbsup2

oh, i'm a shoe girl, too. when we moved into our house 5 years ago i had something like 75 pairs compared to my husband's 12 pairs. :rotfl: and my shoes always require their own suitcase, especially in the winter with boots.

i just don't wear high heels at theme parks. but, like you, i will wear them to a nice restaurant at disney. there's nothing wrong with that! :thumbsup2

No lie. It's like "Aliens Goes to Disney" or something.

Can't wait to see all the captions. Of course if need be, I'm sure we can all supply you with ample flats for use as subject matter.

lol on the suitcase, boots are a nightmare to travel with. Of course packing for winter in general is too!

Well Jordan, I'm moderately caught up on this phase of your PTR - another case of I got busy and you added another 50 pages :lmao:

I'm hoping to have some more time over the holiday to go back and comment on more specifics, but I did want to throw my 2 cents in on that 'extra day' you were talking about.

I know it's not Disney and it has a separate cost to it - but if you can swing Discovery Cove (with or without the dolphin experience) I highly recommend it. You get pampered with a great breakfast and lunch spread, plus it is an Anheiser Busch park - so all the free beer you can drink (I partook of several Amber Bocks while I was there). You can do as much or as little as you want as far as animal interactions - but if you like the river at Typhoon Lagoon, you'll love the one at DC. Just a thought.

And since the photogs had run amuck on your thread I'll put in my two cents there. I have friends who still shoot on 35mm and I certainly agree about some of what has been said about what you can do with film ...especially black and white. You just can't get the same results with a DSLR.

I think it comes down to if you like to find the moment and create a perfect shot. If you do, then it is worth the time and expense to use film. It is a test of "eye" and precision. Of really knowing what is an important shot or moment and getting it right.

But I am more of a "gonzo-style" shooter. On a trip I usually take over 1,000 shots a day, otherwise I'd just miss those moments. I took about 15,000 hi-res shots over the course of 12 days in Orlando last year. And with all of that shooting I had an average of one in five to one in ten that were real "keepers" (I posted about 1,800 pictures on my TR).

Where this really came into play was with character interactions with the kids and live action shows. With the interactions the facial expressions change from second to second and catching that 'perfect moment' is like a roll of the dice. So I hedge my bets by taking more than I need. And capturing live action is just a constant shooting process to keep up with all of the elements in view.

Yup, it is kind of "hack"ish, but between a 4GB card and an entry level Rebel with a good lens (plus and extra battery) I know I'll get the shots. And if a shot doesn't work I just hit delete, no harm - no foul. But then again I don't make myself out to be a "pro" either and only work for food (or Disney Dollars) :goodvibes

Wow! 18 rolls! I admire your fervor!

Those infrareds are very cool. Most remind me of a total winter wonderland. There are similar ways to manipulate digital, such as the "Oh Brother Where Art Thou?" imagery made orange/brown from the original green without effecting the other colors in the shot. I think digital is TOO sharp. I think there are times when it is good, but I can't get the backgrounds to blur enough for my portrait style preferences. Even in "portrait" settings it is still too sharp. I probably sound like an old fuddy-duddy, but oh well.

Jordan, if you wanted to get artsy-fartsy you could look for patterns and abstracts in every day objects. Take a close-up of something that makes it unrecognizable until you take another shot pulled back to show what it is. That type of stuff. Not nearly as "fun" as goofy hair and shoes though. ;)

~ MAREESA (my name as spoken by an Asian person)
(when I worked at a produce company in OC, I got quite used to the accents of the Asian chefs who called in for orders. Lomaine, Rettuce, Remon, Led cabbage. The one I could never remember was Baneara. (Vanilla). That one got me every time. But all that aside, I have PROFOUND respect for anyone who comes to this country and learns enough English to have a conversation. Kudos!!!)

Aside from the obvious benefit of cost, this is definitely the biggest positive to using digital for me and my family. We got our first digital point and shoot because my oldest DD detested the camera without even knowing what it was and was horrible to photograph. We got on Olympus that had a rapid shoot feature, so we could hold the button down and it would just keep taking. If we wanted to add flash it would also fire rapidly, without that annoying digital delay, but slightly slower than the other setting. We've made good use of that one but now it is becoming unreliable and the DD is much more responsive to cameras so I'm looking at brands other than Oly with better features all around.
