The irony of thongs is that they were created to avoid VPL. So why bother trying to avoid panty lines of you're just going to show the panties?

Thankfully, I'm seeing less and less of the whale tail these days...I think this "fashion statement" has jumped the shark, and soon we'll be making fun of it on VH1's "I Love the Early 2000s".

The peeping thing is bad. The other is when women/girls who wear thongs don't do a rear check. They can wear the most beautiful clothes but the back view is dimply cellulite. Not pretty

THIS was the original post that STARTED this thread. The picture of the overweight person was added as Post #50, not by the OP. Your judgement should be directed to those that posted and reposted the picture, not the OP!

Let me say, as a fat person, that this was not a post making fun of overweight people, this was a post making fun of classless people. This lady just happened to be fluffy. FACT OF LIFE...as an over weight person there are inherently certain things that one just doesn't look good in. We don't have to laugh in someones face but we do have to be honest with ourselves. Some men, for example, look presentable in a speedo, I on the other hand would look like 100 pounds of ugly squeezed into a 1 lb freezer bag. It's a fact, it is to a large degree my choice to have let my body get like that. So if somebody looks at me kind of strange because I lacked the common sense to dress size appropriate, then I guess I don't blame them for being human.

Now back on topic. I find the "thong" an interesting item. Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the purpose of the thong originally to eliminate VPL's? And wasn't the purpose of eliminating VPL's to not have the embarrassing situation of the public knowing that you wear (gasp) underwear and where that underwear is located? So then, one wears a thread (butt floss) acting as a permanent wedgie, all day long and having clothing styles that accentuate not only where the "thread" goes but where it begins as well?

I'm confused!

My kids hate when I lift the back of my shirt and show off the granny panties. Since all of my jeans "sit on the hips" my oh so comfy granny panties stick up out of them. I try to wear long enough shirt to cover them, but sometimes if I'm not careful I share my little gift with the world.

Can I just go off topic slightly to say that every time one of you guys posts "VPL", "panty lines" is not what my brain fills in as being visible? When I was in high school, VPL meant something else. Still had to do with your pants and what was visible, but...ummmm....

I made a crack to my daughter (18) about her butt floss in the laundry recently, and she said, "Well, I don't like having VPL." I told her to buy looser jeans then. She said she didn't like them in skirts either, and looser skirts fall off. I wanted to know how on earth you could get VPL in a skirt. And we both stood there giving one another blank looks.

I hate peaking thongs, but I hate peaking bottoms even more. I saw a lady at the courthouse when I went for jury duty. (She was there for jury duty too.) When she bent over, everything was there for the world to see -- disgusting!!!

You can have VPL in a skirt! I have a couple of skirts (different materials) that don't do a good job of hiding the ridge at the edge of regular panties. A thong can definitely be necessary for skirts, too.

Personally, I don't understand all the hoopla over thong underwear. While I agree that it looks classless to let your thong (or granny panties, or any type of undergarment) show, why should anyone care what style of underwear someone chooses to wear?

If adults want that look that is their choice. When we were last a Disney, though, there were two young ladies (10ish, twins) decked out, and it turned my stomach. Of course, when mom came off of testrack dressed like a Hoochie Girl, it became obvious where they were getting them.

I don't think the P in VPL that she is referring to stands for Panty. Think more of a camel toe.
