I'm making shirts for our trip next week. They are doing great but is there a trick to peel the backing off this transfer paper. I've got one I've been working on 30 minutes and it hasn't budged.

Peel is when it is warm and it comes off much easier. Obviously they are pretty cool by now, so just heat up the iron again and get it warm then peel away.

I might be wrong or you may be using some paper I don't use but all the ones I have used the instructions say to peel off backing after you iron on the image and the image cools some but not completely. this is for light transfer I assume.

The dark transfers I use to do have a backing and you put wax paper over the image.

I hope this helps or someone has the type of paper you do if it is different.

This is dark transfer paper and the instructions say to peel the back off before ironing. I've done 3 with no problem but I have one that the paper backing just doesn't want to peel off of.

Actually it's parchment paper, not wax paper. ;)

I have a done a few shirts all using the HP dark paper, letting them cool completely and have not had any problems. What brand are you using?

Sometimes it's really tricky. Sorry I don't have any tricks. Just persistance. If you are trimming a design I would always peel it off partially before trimming so that you will be able to peel it off fully after trimming (before trimming at least you have an corner/edge to start with, after trimming there is no corner...)

Thanks, I am trimming the designs and that does help. This last one I just finished I began the peeling prior to trimming and it was much easier. Thanks!

I've done a ton of these, and if you forget to get it started before trimming here's an easy way to do it...

The paper backing tears easily; the transfer paper doesn't. I know it's scary at first, but you can make a tiny gentle tear to the paper backing while it is still attached to the transfer paper and the transfer paper will just stretch while the backing tears. This makes it SO easy to separate! Test it out on the untrimmed portion to give you confidence. I still usually start it that way on the untrimmed partand then cut a slit in the backing that extends into the area I'm about to trim, then I trim it and peel it. However, when you forget, don't be afraid to tear the backing--it really works. And saves oh so much time and frustration!

Tearing works fantastically! Thanks!

I've also used a pin to stick in between the layers and lift them apart. Some of them are tricky to get apart.
