Peeled grapes....

There is something very unnatural about a peeled grape. They are supposed to "pop" when you bite into them, not squish.

Do you have a preference?

I slurp the grape's insides out if the skin is too tough. Normally I pop them in and eat them though.

What is a scuppernong? Is it like a muscadime?

I don't think I've ever actually eaten a peeled grape. I used to cut them into little wedges for the boys when they were babies.

I love muscadine/scuppernong. I prefer them as homemade wine, but the grapes are good, too.

My father used to use theterms scuppernong and bullis interchangably.

Around home, many folks had scuppernong vines which grew around and over a metal framework.

With time, the name scuppernong became generic with all bronze muscadines, regardless of actual variety name. However, this is incorrect nomenclature since 'Scuppernong' is only one of many cultivars of muscadine grapes. Bullis and its variants (bullace, bullet grape, bull grape) are very old names for dark-fruited muscadines.
