Trying to find another pediatrician for my children...

What is the difference between:

pediatrics
general pediatrics
clinical pediatrics

I happen to be a pediatrician (solely work in a hospital though). In my mind I think of all three terms to mean the same thing. If I were you, I would go to www.aap.org (our national organization) and they should have some patient/parent resources for you. You can also go to abp.org to find out if the pediatrician you are interested in is board certified (believe it or not you don't have to be board certified to practice!)

Hope this helps!

Hi ebowen!

I am also a pediatrician (academic medicine), and I was born and raised in the Louisville area!! My folks still live in Clarksville, and we try to see them a couple of times a year.

Oh, I agree with ebowen. Another term that is sometimes used, at least here in our hospital, is Ambulatory Pediatrics.

If you find a pediatrician you are interested in, see if they do new patient conferences.

The practice I work for does this. For us it is at the end of the day. One of the docs takes time to meet with the potential patients parents, or the expecting parents. They give them a tour of the office and talk to them about how the practice is run. They also answer any questions that they may have.

The meeting doesn't take long, 15-20 minutes or so, depending on how many questions they have. It's gives them a good feel of how we work, and if it would be a good relationship.

Also make sure they have different waiting areas for people there for "well child" visits.

That sounds like an excellent way to run a practice! I would be very impressed..:goodvibes
