That is fantastic! Unfortunately, in our schoold, intramurals only start in 6th grade and are limited. 7th grade is when full intramurals are available. And no cheer or wrestlinv, that starts in high school. But there is a crazy amount of rec to travel sports available to make up for it.

lol Our wrestling starts in kindergarten!

So does ours but it's not a school sport. All the sports listed start in Kindergarten but they aren't through the school,

Actual school sports don't start until 7th grade and that's when we need physicals.

We have some sports outside of school (Upwords, Little League) but almost everything is through the schools here. Most of the leagues/teams for the younger kids are coached by the high school varsity kids for whichever sport it is. It's actually pretty cool.

Our insurance will only cover one well visit per year and the kids usually go close to their birthdays. I've never heard of "back to school" physicals. My kids see the pediatrician once a year and that covers them for a calendar year. For sports, we do need to submit a form from the dr, and my kids last saw him in November. They will get new forms at their appts this November and will be able to submit those forms to school for sports. I don't know anyone who HAS to do this in August.

I got the call this morning all three have an appointment two weeks from today. for me this is the worst part of going back to school is trying to get all of their appointments done before they go back.

I am a pediatrician, and my schedule is booked out to November.

We've never had a physical required for school, just proof of immunizations. But, if there is a health issue that the school will be dealing with, they required some paperwork regarding those issues.

Sometimes this paperwork is ridiculous and redundant. DS has an epi pen stored in the medical station at school (due to getting allergy shots in the morning before school). The pens come labeled with the prescription and directions for use, but I still have to have a physician-signed form detailing the dosage and directions for use. Overkill if you ask me since all that information comes on the pens.

My kids still get their vax at the health department, they just bill our insurance. I find it easier to get an appointment there, and much quicker turnaround time. I prefer it to the doctor's office.

Our son had to get a physical every year for football starting in first grade. We schedule these at our company clinic because they are free there. We do have to work pretty hard to get an appointment with our preferred provider in a timely manner so we have to schedule almost as soon as school ends the previous year.

Physicals were not required for baseball, softball, soccer, cheerleading until 7th grade, I believe.

Interesting how differently states and school systems manage these issues.

We don't even see a pediatrician. We all go to the same family practice, same as when I was a kid. My kids are 6 and 11.

We need physicals for school here in my district in PA. ( only for certain grades, however. I can't remember them all, but I know that one is needed prior to 9 th gr. and the child needs the meningococcal vaccine then.) Not true in all the other places we have lived. However, all HS sports have required physicals at different intervals. In AR the physical was needed prior to try-outs/practice starting. In PA for Fall sports it needs to be after June 1 and prior to July 31 as that is the date the forms had to be turned in to the Athletic Director. I believe that is state-wide, as they were PIAA forms (PA something Athletic Assoc.). The year we moved here, one of my kids had had a physical in March and insurance wouldn't pay for another one, they did let it slide (she had had all the correct shots). Our school does offer sports physicals (free) on certain dates, but it is first come, first serve and the lines can be very long. They also won't sign other forms during those. I took my DD to a walk-in clinic this year, as in PA you also need a physical prior to getting your Drivers Permit (never heard of that before we moved here) and that Dr. Would sign both the sports form and the DOT one so she can test for her permit once she turns 16 in a couple of months.

You are also competing against all the kids that needs sports physicals. You would be amazed how many kids will go to school first day and surprise not have a physical. We called in March for the kids sport and freshman physicals for this June. Cause it is crazy busy in August. And if kids need multiple shots, some need to catch up, they could need multiple visits.
