Following on from Carol's 'Peculiar food' thread, I just wondered if anyone out there has any peculiar habits bordering on OCD tendencies ;)

I always count steps when I'm going up them (but never on the way down). Also, whenever I am walking anywhere I always count the number of steps (if I'm on my own - it's hard to count with a toddler jabbering on beside you).

I always tap the top of a can of pop before I open it - no idea why :confused3

My Dad, when I was little, told me it was unlucky to cross on the stairs so if someone is coming the opposite way when I am going up/down stairs, I always have to go back to the top/bottom until they've passed :rotfl:

Other than my food issues I don't have any other pecularities:rotfl2: Well unless you consider my love of Disney and a certain Disney forum:lmao:

Well, I could go on for ever about my weird habits! I also count things including steps Joh! I also count letters in words on billboards etc and don't like it if it is an odd number :lmao: I really do think that I have some form of OCD!!

Kathryn ~ Compulsive behaviours can be very time-consuming, often getting in the way of normal work and family life. They can also be embarrassing for the affected person. The time taken up by compulsions and the embarrassment they cause can increase stress levels even further, making symptoms worse.

Compulsions can also be psychological. These include counting in the head or thinking through the words of a song or prayer over and over again. People with OCD may have more than one obsession and/or compulsion.

Unless it is seriously affecting your life then it could just be a quirky part of you;)

a very close friend of mine has a thing for checking that doors are locked, she will often check more than once as well :confused3 other than that she's as normal as the rest of us:rotfl:

Spoken like a true psychologist Florence :rotfl:

I can only fall asleep with the TV on :happytv:

Luckily my TV has a timer, so I usually set it to go off about an hour after I decide to go to sleep.

I heard Wayne Rooney has a similar problem - he can only fall asleep if there is a vacuum cleaner on!! Something about the noise helps him sleep. The vacuum cleaner manufacturers must be pleased, not sure about his fiance Colleen though :lmao:

:laundy:
I have one concerning my laundry...
When I wash lots of pairs of socks (in the UK they are all coloured with funky pictures on them - well in our house they are) I have to hang them on the indoor drier in a particular way... there can be no more than one of each pair on a row, every row has to have all the sock with either the toe or the top showing (you can't mix it) and no two rows can have totally the same selection of socks on it...

Maybe I should seek help?:scared:

Actually I have a lot.. I also can't go to bed without all my clothes folded up and put away... and I HATE having dirty hands... am always washing them...

I never thought I was peculiar till DD started pointing out a few 'habits' :

I never eat yellow sweets, when DDs offer me a sweet I always refuse the yellow ones or give the yellow ones back!
When I eat a roll and something, say sausage, I eat around the roll in a circle (apparently I sometimes do this with sandwiches as well!).
I always have to sleep next to the door! If we stay in a hotel and the side next to the door is the side DH usually sleeps I win (my compulsion is greater)

I think I'm really quite sane

I hate dirty hands too - when I was little I'd cry if they got muddy, which was odd as I was a tomboy in every other way.
I'll never wear footwear in the house - my son, too, even when tiny wouldn't keep his slippers on.
I sleep on the right side of the bed, although have been single for over 9 years!
I HAVE to be on time for everything - I see lateness as ignorant and lazy, I hate it!
Everything has to be done now! I can't leave things til tomorrow (probably why I'm so stressed about my bathroom! I NEED to get it done NOW! and am hating being at work when ther's so much to do)

I cant sleep properly unless my electric blanket is on, even in the summer, even if it means throwing the duvet off me.

I check my front and back doors twice before I leave the house.

I, like Joh always tap the top of any can of drink.

My one leg always jigglys up and down when Im sitting down, much to the annoyence of Vicki at home and my collegues at work.

I can never pick up a dropped knife, so if nobody is around when I drop it then its there until somebody else can pick it up.??

:lmao: :lmao:

Sue I do that with my leg also. Also, however cold I am I have to have one leg out of the duvet

Thing that gets on my nerves about myself is why do I count the numbers on registration plates??? :confused3 I dont do it all the time. When I do it gets on my nerves.

I hate touching and changing bins. :confused3 Yet I am a nurse :confused3 See and touch everything else. Although I do wear gloves, but even with gloves on it seems to revolting. :lmao:

I am weird.

I also tap the top of drinks cans, I read somewhere that it reduces the pressure inside and stops it from exploding all over you. :confused3

Before I go out I always have to check that the back door is locked and the oven/hob is off, even when I havent been cooking anything!!

I have to keep straightening things up like ornaments etc. if there is crease in the bed clothes when i am in it, i have to remake the bed. If a man has a crooked tie on, on tv it drives me mad i just want to put it straight!!!! Apparently it's my star sign i am a virgo. Oh and apparently i talk with my hands which drives DH and DD mad
