Hello all,
I am in the processes of putting together PECS for all the parks. These work great for my ASD son. I have just finished the PECS for MK. If you would like a copy please send me a PM and I will email them to you. BTW I use Windows Vista, home version they are in a .doc format and I tried to keep all about 2"x2"

Wow, that's fantastic! I'm new to these boards, but we've just started using PECS with my 2 year old, he's picking it up piece by piece. We're not going to Disney til August, but if you have time to forward these along sometime, that would be fabulous. Thanks so much, I'll send you a PM :)

Ok, well it took me a minute to figure our my post count is too low to PM... oops! Here is the PM that I was trying to send...

Hi! My name is Karen, and I just posted to your thread about PECS. My 2 year old is just starting in early intervention and using PECS (very basic!). We aren't going to Disney til August, but I would be grateful if you would forward them to me if you have time.
How old is your son? And if you can excuse my ignorance, can you tell me what ASD stands for? I'm sure it's an acronym I should know, but I can't place it for the life of me!

Thanks again, have a great day!
Karen

ASD = Autism Spectrum Disorder.

Thanks to the OP for the offer. Another poster was trying to come up with some communication pages for WDW. I put links to a few threads about alternative communication in the disABILITIES FAQs thread (I just put them in this morning - you didn't miss them).

It's not real active, but they do have one section devoted to communication for people with autism.

ALSO - for anyone who is wondering what PECS are, it stands for Picture Exchange Communication System (here's a link for more information.

Here's one of the pages I made for my DD's communication device:

I have the boardmaker ones... Don't forget!

I have them in Word format as well (and I have TONS of boardmaker programming for songs and books)

Here are the other pages I made:

and the 'front page' of my DD's device, showing the links to the WDW pages:

If anyone has a Vantage/Vanguard AAC device, I can send you the actual files to load the page on your device.

If anyone else has jpg files of device pages or PECS you have made and you want me to add them to my photo album, let me know.
A poster named Forevryoung had the good idea last year to start sort of a file of communication pages people could use and whatever you can send would be a great start.

Yep, I was writing my other post at the same time as you posted this.

I'm about to contact one of the administrators (now that I'm back from my trip and having too much time on my hands with school done) about creating some communication and Disney web pages. I would love to have a spot to upload what I have and what Sue has as well as the individual jpgs.

I'll be in contact with the OP and Sue regarding putting it together. Feel free to contact me- this stuff is my specialty (really, I'm 4 months away from a masters in it).

I have a bunch of resources including a "how to" that I wrote on designing a low tech communication system for anyone.

Being a speech-language pathologist I wandered into this forum to see what was going on here, and I can say what a great idea it is for you to put together these pages! Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.

Excuse my ignorance because I'm new I have no idea how to PM! I would love to receive OP's pics to put together pages for my daughter's Springboard device. We're heading to WDW on Feb 1st, and this will be our first trip with her talker.

Also, if anyone happens to have Disney pages put together for a Springboard, I would love to see what you've done. We have the picture set that came with the device (don't remember the name) and we also have Boardmaker. She's only been using the device a few months, so she's not "great" at it yet, but I think taking it to the parks would be a great way to get her more interested in using it!

Just to clarify for everyone, the PECS I am making are not for any type of electronic device. These are just for 'traditional' Picture exchange communication system. Unless of course there is a way to use them with such I system that I am unaware.

But I am so happy to see all these people willing to get these out to everyone regardless of what system you use with your child or loved one. It can make Disney so much more enjoyable and productive!:yay:

On my dd's device, I can upload pictures, so just having the pictures would be a big help. I'm new to the device, so the majority of the time I spend programming it I'm trying to decide what should all be on the page, and finding a picture to go with what I'm trying to say!

If anyone has any good files to share, please email me at the same username as this message board @yahoo.com. (Hopefully saying it that way will keep the spam away!)

Thanks to all!
Jennifer

PS. I now see where I can get PM's, I just can't send. So you can send anything my way that way, too (I think!) Thank you all for bearing with the beginning message boarder...

Springboard is a Prentke Romich device, which is the same company that makes my DD's Vantage. The language their devices use is Minspeak/Unity.

If you look at where I posted 4 pages, the 'front page' of your DD's Springboard should look somewhat similar. The Springboard is kind of a 'stepping stone' device to the Vantage and Vanguard; it has less buttons, but is otherwise very similar.
If you email me at suem@wdwinfo.com I will send you the pictures I used to program my DD's device. They should work well on your DD's device.
The page files for my DD's device won't work for the Springboard, but you should be able to use them for a pattern to program your own. The finding pictures part was what took the most time for me. That actual programming only took about 15 minutes per page.

I'm new to the device, so the majority of the time I spend programming it I'm trying to decide what should all be on the page, and finding a picture to go with what I'm trying to say!
PS
Having had previous experience with a device that we programmed many many pages on, I'd suggest not programming a lot of pages. The Prentke Romich devices come programmed with a lot of "Core Language". Those are the most frequently used words and if your child gets comfortable with them, she will be able to communicate what she wants to say a lot more than if you have a lot of individual pages.
Just say that I learned a lot by experience.

That actually is great to hear. With all her other therapies, preschool, and baby brother we've had very little time to program anything custom at all. We are using some of the built in pages, but we're having a hard time gaining traction. I will definitely do some exploring to see just what all is there. I'm hoping that the Disney pages may be something that we can do to get us ALL excited about using the device. DH and I are a bit overwhelmed with just how exactly to incorporate it into our everyday lives, to be honest... (obviously a newbie with the device) Once dd catches on, I'm sure it will be so amazing to know what's going on in that little head! But in the meantime it's been a big learning process for us all. [sorry if a bit off-topic!]:)

Since this is my "specialty" I have a million ideas into incorporating it into your daily life- let me know if you want me to send you an email or if it would just be more overwhelming (or what you are looking for specifically). For example, some of my research involves using these high tech devices and playing with toddlers- soooo cool!
