Hi again!!!
We are trying to map out our days and I am having trouble prioritizing/budgeting time. There are so many amazing things.
We have the Oahu GoCards and were going to split Pearl Harbor in the morning and then the catamaran sail in the afternoon, 1 pm. I am trying to find a peaceful way to pick parts of the Pearl Harbor locations- we usually prefer to do ALL of it but we just won't have time. I am having a hard time choosing.

How long would you earmark for each part of the Pearl Harbor locations?
And
Which would you rank as preferred?
We have 6 kids, all love history but some are younger. 14,13,12,10,8,5
All are physically able to handle climbing, will listen intently and love any experience they got.

Since we did that exact same thing (PH in the morning catamaran in the pm) - I will say it is hard to get everything in. We did the Arizona the prior day, in the afternoon. You need a couple hours just for that, with the pre-show and museum that goes with it. For adults, I think that's a high priority, and for kids - even the younger ones get a sense of the emotion... plus at the very least, the short ferry ride back and forth.

We still didn't get everything in the next day, though. I wish we had gotten to PH earlier, but it was a weekday and I didn't want to join rush hour traffic. We didn't even attempt the Pacific Aviation museum, which I'm sure is awesome, but we lived in the DC area (read: Smithsonian!) too long to prioritize that. So we first did the Bowfin, b/c it was what our kids were most excited about (DS7, DD11). I think it was about an hour to get through the whole self-guided headphone recording tour of the sub, but we didn't go to the museum next to it at all b/c we wanted to get over to the Missouri. And here is where I will offer a very concrete piece of advice I wish I had known - eat by the Bowfin. DS was starting to complain about being hungry, and we told him to wait until we got to the Missouri. You have to take a shuttle bus there, which is a time suck to wait for, but the actual ride is nice and informative. Well, we got there, and there was just a little snack shack and a food truck - with a line of a few dozen people, moving at a snail's pace. Eventually we talked the kids into splitting literally the last slice of pizza at the snack shack and a bag of chips, but we still wasted 30min for that. Ugh. The Bowfin's quick service may not have been as tasty as the local food truck at the Missouri, but it would have been far easier, and with shade and more plentiful seating. You need a couple hours to really see the Missouri, but we had nowhere near that much time. We blitzed through as fast as we could, took the shuttle back, and I grabbed crappy sandwiches from the mini-mart-ish thing next to the gift shop while DH got the car, to eat on the drive to the catamaran. Aside from the Arizona, you'd need a good 4-5 hours to really properly see the Bowfin, Missouri, shuttle back and forth, and eat lunch.

Nix the Bowfin if anyone is claustrophobic. Otherwise, it probably would rank highest for most younger kids. DS7 was super excited to see the Missouri b/c it's a battleship... but it wasn't as interactive as the Bowfin for someone his age. The Arizona probably ranks highest for most adults. We got stuck in traffic going home, so I also might suggest you go back to PH after the catamaran ride. We didn't, b/c I didn't want to get stuck in traffic... wrong call. It was pointless to try to get going. We could have gotten another hour of touring in there, and just eaten dinner somewhere nearby while we waited for traffic to die back down. Hope this helps a bit!

We have been to pearl Harbour 3 times and each time took pretty well the whole day. Lots to see and learn and kids have always loved it. On top of that traffic can be terrible and add some stress trying to get to your catamaran excursion. The Arizona and Misouri are going to take up the most time along with the shuttle ride between both. Both would easily take the whole morning and are the ones that are going to tell the story of Pearl Harbour best. You could do it as long as your family doesn't doddle. We also enjoy the aviation museum and the little restaurant there is a great place for lunch. that usually takes us a couple of hours. The Bowfin doesn't take very long to do as it is a self guided audio tour. So you can just pop on take a look and not listen to the audio. I don't go in it as I am claustrophic, instead I wonder through the museum, which can also be done fairly quick.

We plan to do the Arizona and the Bowfin. We toured a destroyer a few hours from our home last summer and have done many aviation museums. I'm certain I'd enjoy doing every single bit of all of it, but my family will not. So, we plan to go in a Sunday, be done by lunch, and hit the swap meet. I appreciate the details regarding food at PH! Any recommendations on good lunch spots in that area??

Another question- does the mighty mo pass allow you to the gun turrets? At all? My two youngest are most excited about getting a picture at them and I think they can't with the 10 and under rule.

It might sounds strange, but I would recommend The Alley at Aiea Bowl for lunch. It's in a bowling alley, but really the food is very good and it's not far at all from the stadium. Check out the reviews on Trip Advisor :D In fact, I'm thinking it sounds really yummy for my lunch today...

Make time for the Arizona memorial for sure. They will show a movie before you boat out to the memorial that does a great job describing the events leading up too that day and what took place that day. Then be sure to go to the museum. If thats all you get in, you have done a lot. If there is a PH survivor, be sure to stop and say hello, and get a picture with him/her. We met a very nice fellow who seemed very gracious that we took the time with him. All the while, it was my honor to meet him instead.
I wouldn't suggest The Missouri. We have the USS NC docked in Wilmington, NC and you can see so much more aboard it than the MO will allow you to see, and for a lot less money. They are doing a lot of work aboard the MO right now(we were there this past Sat)and felt it was a waste of $$ right now. Im sure in time they will open a lot more, but time wise, talking 10-15 yrs from now.

I had a luau scheduled for the night of Pearl Harbor. We had to leave way too early. (But I love all that Navy stuff). Ended up returning on another day to see the Missouri. When we go in February my In-Laws wil want to go so I'll be doing it again and I'll be scheduling a full day.

Does anyone know if there is a waiting area for those who don't like boat rides? Thanks

The only thing that you take the boat (launch) for is to get to the actual Arizona Memorial itself. On land there are tons of things to do, exhibits, movie, free standing displays. Plenty for someone who doesn't want to take the launch.

Unless I'm totally misunderstanding what you're asking.

My mom wont get on boats, my 5 year old and I want to go to the actual Arizona Memorial, so I was wondering if there was anywhere for her to wait while we went to the Arizona Memorial within the area. About how long does it take to just go to the Arizona Memorial

Yes, you can sit on a bench and wait. When we lived on Oahu, I took my Aunt & Uncle there (they flew over from Maui to see just that one day). I picked them up from the interisland terminal, took them to Pearl Harbor, waited on a bench with a book so they could go to the memorial, then took them to lunch at the old Aloha Tower (which isn't the same anymore). I was newly pregnant and tired! Plus had been there other times already.

Oh yes. There are plenty of places for them to sit, and plenty of places for them to walk. The park itself is free and most of the exhibits are free.

The people who are taking the boat have to view a movie first so I would suggest getting a free ticket for your mom so she can also watch the movie even though she's not taking the boat. Then the boat ride itself is like 10 minutes, just across the harbor. Then from there you can spend as much time as you want at the memorial. You can walk through, pay your respects, then just leave on the next launch. Or you can wait through a few launch returns and take one when you're ready. There isn't actually much to do when you get to the memorial. You walk across. You look at the names, and then you leave.

I've attached two images. One shows the proximity of the memorial itself and the park area. The second is the park. Everything in that green area is where your mother can walk around, look at exhibits, and sit and wait if she wants. She can see the arizona memorial from the land as well.
