Peanut allergy and Mickey Mouse Ice Cream sticks?

My daughter had eaten the Mickey Mouse Ice Cream Sticks on previous trips but I recently read they may have changed the product and are now they are on a line that may contain peanuts/nuts?

Does anyone know if we should be avoiding this treat? It's a favorite!!

We were just at WDW in March and my nut-allergic DD ate the Mickey bars every day with no problems.

I'm not aware of any ice cream manufacturer that uses dedicated lines. (Perhaps there are some out there, but I'm not aware of them.) The companies I have called have explained that they make vanilla and the other non-nut flavors first, and then make the flavors with nuts. The machinery is then sanitized and tested before they go back to making the vanilla and other nut free flavors. So, to me, the risk of eating a Mickey bar is the same as my DD eating a tub of vanilla ice cream that I buy at the supermarket.

You can call the company that makes the Mickey bars (I think it's Dreyer's) and ask if they use dedicated equipment, and if they don't, ask what their procedure is for cleaning the equipment, then you can see if you're comfortable with it.

My son is allergic to peanuts and tree nuts and loves those mickey ear ice cream bars. He has no issues with them.

My DD has tree nut allergies and has eaten the Mickey Bars (as of Jan. 2011) without issue. I believe the warning on that other Disboards thread said that they were manufactured in a facility, not on the same equipment. We do not avoid "in the same facility" but we DO avoid "on the same equipment".

Thank you so much for your replies...That's kind of how I feel, she had been eating them with no issues at all. So I am concerned if I should take a chance but then part of me thinks she's had them before she should be fine to have them again.

She always looks forward to being able to have ice cream at Disney. As we don't go to ice cream parlor's at home because of all the cross contamination issues.

Years ago I remember reading of people who would get a random peanut in the chocolate of their Mickey bars but it's been years. The manufacturer (I think Nestle?) changed procedures since that time and I haven't read of a single incident of this since that change. I think they no longer share equipment which was the problem back then.

I called them when I first found put about her allergy and feel she's been fine with their products. When I was a kid I got a peanut m&m in the regular m&m bag. I never forgot about it, I'm positive there precautions are much different now, but because of that I'd never want her to try m&m's.

Count me as another one who has eaten Mickey Bars with no problems. I'm allergic to peanuts and tree nuts. Last time I had a Mickey Bar was February 2012

I have heard to many horrid stories about the M&M's I wouldn't take that chance. My DS has eaten the Mickey Bars forever without an issue, and I am a HUGE worry wart about everything. Actually he just ate a Ritz whole wheat cracker for the first time, and I have been in panic mode for the last 2 hours.
I haven't worried about the Mickey Bars.
