Any advice on where to eat in the parks when DS has peanut allergies????:confused3

I contacted Brenda Bennett at the parks and she knows alot about which places had safe foods. She sent me several emails with attachments of specific restaraunts in each park. My dd has food allergies too (milk, eggs, wheat, peanut, tree nuts).

You can have hard scooped ice cream (ask for a manager and they will open a new container and use a new scoop). EAch park has one shop that has hard scooped ice cream (Main Street in MK, Dino Bites in AK, the American Pavillon in Epcot and Hollywood Scoops in MGM). I had read a thread on Peanut Allergy.org that OK Brownies were going to be sold at the candy shops in the parks. We were there in October and went crazy looking for them and found them at the Main Street Bakery. They also had Divvies products too (jellybeans, rock candy, cookies) which was a surprise. They are in a seperate display rack at the end of the line near the registers. Sit down meals worked well for us, the chef always came out and made him whatever he wanted. Counter service might be a little trickier for us on our next trip since they changed the menus to healthier options and I have a picky eater who would live on hot dogs and fries if I let him. Counter service restaurants have a binder with food labels so you can check them out in advance. Each park has a food service manager who can steer you in the right direction (or tell you what to avoid). MK 407-824-5967, Epcot 407-560-7942, MGM 407-560-1347, AK 407-939-7536. Leave a message and they will call back. Disney is wonderful in dealing with this, which is why we keep going back :)

I'm seconding the advice of gfolchick and mycutiepatooties. My 9 yo ds has a severe peanut allergy and we have been to disney 4 times with him without incident. I am happy about the "safe" packaged foods they offer now as snacks are usually the hard part. The dining staff has always been so accommodating with his allergy. I think he enjoys the extra attention when the chef comes to talk to him too.

When making your ADRs make sure to have it noted on them that there are peanut allergies. Dining also give you the direct number to each restaurant you are eating at. You call and talk to the chef a few days before eating to discuss things so they have an idea of what the person likes to eat. At the podium you remind them of the allergies and the chef will come out and talk to you before ordering. We went with two kids last year. One had peanut, tree nut, and shellfish allergy. Her little brother had milk, egg, and peanut allergy! The chefs were FANTASTIC! They talked to the parents and went over everything. They personally cooked the food and brought it out themselves. Each one told the parents that no one else handled the food but them. My friends had no idea that they would be taken care of like that and were really impressed.

My daughter has peanut allergies and when we make our ADRs we notify them of it. The chef will come out (TS meals) and go over each menu item that is "safe" or not and ask if she would like something else. At the buffets, the chef brings her to each item and tells her what she can/cant have. As for the CS meals, we havent had a problem as of yet. She tells them of her allergy and they either verify safety of certain foods or give an ingredient list.
We always had a good experience with the peanut allergy and will expect it this time also....

DD has peanut allegeries as well. I really can't add to what others are posting except to say that we have never had an incident and WDW is completely accomodating toward this. Except of course the pirate cruises, where they give the kids PB&J's (if you know me, then you know that this is a thorn in my side). How in the world can we put our kids on that boat, with minimal supervision when all that peanut dust is just flying around? It STILL baffles me.

My daughter has a peanut allergy, we went to WDW in June 2006. We too contacted Brenda...she was *fabulous!! She sent us ingredient list for every snack and counter service food we could possibly find in WDW. We had it noted on all our ADR's.

At each TS meal, the chef came to our table to tell us what was safe. At Cape May, none of the desserts on the buffet were safe. The chef came out and asked our daughter..."If you could have any dessert...what would it be?" She said "Vanilla icecream with blueberries". He returned in under 5 minutes with just that...and Mickey sprinkles to add if she liked.

Yikes, I wasn't aware of this. Thanks for bringing it to my attention. (peanut allergy runs in my family)

I also second getting in touch with Brenda--- so helpful!!! Where can you eat? Anywhere you want. However some are uncomfortable with 'Ohana because they serve peanut sauce as a dipping sauce--- you can ask them not to put any on your table, but who knows if the table before you had it on their table. We've eaten there twice without problem. I'm uncomfortable with Beaches and Cream because they serve chopped peanuts as a topping on their sundaes (I'm figuring if they're chopping peanuts, there's peanut dust in the air)--- that's a little too much for me, but everyone has their own comfort zone, and mine isn't very "loose." I have gone there without the kiddos on a parents only weekend, and it was very good though. I was getting peanut butter this and peanut butter that since I haven't had any since my son was diagnosed. I figured I had a few days before I would see him again, so it couldn't hurt him LOL. Also, just so you know at Crystal Palace there were big jars of peanut butter and Jelly on the left side of the buffet, and I think Chef Mickey's has peanut butter and Jelly pizza at breakfast. Some are uncomfortable with that--- depending if your child is contact sensitive. We do eat at those places, it makes me a little uncomfortable, but we eat there.

I'm another one who will not do the pirate cruise-- no way. I've heard that if you're child has a peanut allergy, then they'll find something else for that trip (bagels with Jelly)--- however the thought of pb being served every day on that boat--- no way, no how will I put him on that boat without my being present with an epi pen, but again that's me.

:lmao: :lmao: DH and I are like that too. About every six months we have a PB&J sandwich. The kids are asleep - he runs to Walgreen to get Peanut Butter and Jelly and a new loaf of bread. I'm at home putting Saran wrap on the kitchen counters, I get a plastic knife and make about 2 sandwiches each. Then we THROW EVERYTHING OUT. We use paper plates to eat and then scrub our hands and teeth.

The bad part is that we can't go in an sneak DD a kiss while she's sleeping. But boy are those sandwiches good. We haven't figured out if they're so good because we love them or because they are the forbidden fruit;)

I am so glad we are not alone!! One of us gets away without the kids a couple times a year...and we always splurge on eating nuts/peanut butter/nutter-butter cookies! Then we come home, throw all clothing into the wash, shower from head to toe, brush teeth three times over *before saying hello to dd! :rotfl: The things we parents do!

My DD and I are both severely allergic to peanuts. We've had no problems at all at Disney. As others have posted, the chefs are great!

My husband does the same thing with the PB&J sandwiches..we let him have them once a year on his birthday. Then he can't kiss us for a couple days after he's eaten them! His co-workers laugh at him, because he drools when he see's one of them eating PB&J! He has to wait until October now, until he get's his next sandwiches again! :rotfl2:

:lmao: Too funny! Once, very early on in dd's diagnosis, dh thought it would be okay to sneak a bag of peanut M&M's at work. He kissed dd that night about 5 hours after eating them...within 15 minutes she had lip shaped hive marks on her face and an awful reaction. I felt bad for both dd and dh!

Same thing happened to me many, many years ago....my now ex-husband ate pistashio's a few hours before he picked me up. Gave me a kiss, and within an hour had to bring me up to the hospital! My lips swelled and where huge, I couldn't breathe either! I wasn't a pretty site! :rotfl2:

Same here - when DD was probably 2, I had NO IDEA how serious a peanut allergy was. Her and I were grocery shopping, they were giving out samples of those Smukers pre-maid sandwiches (they probably were just coming out then) I took a sample, push the cart away while I ate it :confused3 and about 10 minutes later gave my baby a kiss. She swelled up where I , I gave her Benedryl called the doc and learned my lessen.

When we have a rare night out, we'll get desserts with peanuts and I feel so guilty because I'm enjoying it so much!

We've been lucky that my son hasn't had a reaction after we've done that.

It's good to hear we're not alone in this.
