Peak vs. Non Peak - Double Price! Why?

I'm sure it comes down to supply and demand, but double the price? I have priced a January cruise vs. a peak period cruise (April, etc.) and the price is roughly double!

This begs the question...why book in April? Weather is warmer, but in January, you can still swim on a Caribbean cruise, can't you? I'm seriously thinking of taking a January cruise rather than a mid year cruise...double the money is a lot of money. (Plus, frankly, even a "cheaper" January cruise is more money than I paid for my recent Princess cruise - in a mini suite.

Apparently there are plenty of people who have that kind of money because they keep the ships full. ;) I am with you, we got
a great price for Dec. and can't wait! It will be a real treat to
leave the cold Md. weather for warmer climate.:)

We were THRILLED to find a value season 3 day cruise for December 2003. The one for Dec. 21-24 is still considered value season. This is the ONLY cruise time I have found that is value season that occurs when school is out.

We booked it and can't wait to see what the ship is like for Christmas. Now the 'bad' part is we will be driving to Indiana on Dec. 24 & 25th, but figure we will get in during the afternoon of Christmas and plan to 'celebrate' with family that evening.

But the 'full' price trips are hard for us to consider. But school schedules do make it more difficult. Wished we lived in Florida where we could just drive a couple hours to get there!

Sometimes it doesn't even have anything to do with the weather...it's just that whole supply and demand thing. We are paying a FORTUNE to sail on Thanksgiving, but I will not have to use any vacation days. Since I have no more left this year, I would have to take unpaid leave for another cruise so I guess it all works out in the end. Ironically, I have been unable to find anyone else from DIS sailing the Wonder for Thanksgiving. I suspect we will find a lot of people sailing with special deals (FL residents, etc.) and paying significantly less...that happens quite a bit.

Barb,
You ought to move to Florida! You would save yourself a fortune in cruise cost ;) ! I tell DH if he ever looks for another job, I will only move if it is closer to the cruise!

I think I am becoming a Disney Addict!

LOL I thought of moving, but the bugs in FL would kill me.

(I'm a wimp.)

thanks :)

I don't think I want to move all the way there, but I wouldn't mind closer! I would to make it in twelve hours or less. Right now it takes us 19 hours. We head out after DH gets off work and drive through the night and get there the next afternoon.

Florida is a bit hot and too buggy for me too!

We moved from NJ & it's no worse here than NJ in the summer - it's rare to see a 100 degree day here & the bugs aren't that bad - it's like snow in Colorado vs snow in Virginia - they're better equipped to handle it here.
You can tell a FL resident from a tourist - we're the ones without the tan!
Yes, we do get some great discounts as well!

tstobb,
I LOVED your pictures! I see you took a Limo! Did you take that from the airport? Did it take you to the port and then pick you for the way back? Did it have a video player in it (for the kids)? They looks so cute! I love the matching clothes!

I don't "have that kind of money" but I do have a teacher husband and children in school :-) That's why we pay big bucks and go to Disney during the holidays. (Hey, don't tell the DH how much that extra night at Disney W was ok???!)

We are just so excited to be going on our first Disney Cruise!!!

Thanks!:)
We took the limo from WDW to the port & back at the end of the trip. There was a tv but I don't remember if there was a video player - the boys both had their Gameboys & DD was busy watching the scenery!
