It's suddenly occurred to me that I haven't had to consider this for several years. Do they still add a peak season surcharge to the OOP price of TS restaurants in the Summer and other peak times?

I don't carry much cash on me and will probably be taking a gift card for the meal and cash for tip so I need to add this in when I leave the room if applicable.

Thanks. :goodvibes

They have been - check Rusty sticky in the restaurant forum as he lists all the prices for the fixed price meals :thumbsup2

Edit - heres the Link - and it looks like they aren't doing seasonal pricing so far this year (however looking at it the prices didn't go back down after the last "seasonal" increase ;)

Thanks for the info and the link. It's been so long since this applied to us I totally forgot about it!

Errr ... if I may ask, since you're staying at POFQ, why don't you charge to the room ?
You still have the ability to pay off your room balance whenever you like, in any way you like (up until the night before your check out)

Charging to the Magic Band is hassle free (just enter your PIN code). You need absolutely no cash on property, and it all fits on your wrist.

I know some people won't put their CC on the room, but I thought I'd ask.

I've never had to consider this either!
I hope they don't add it on again this yr that comes to quite a bit more, I know I have the ddp but it boosts up the price of the tip!

Good question. Hopefully I have a good answer, lol

I never add charging to my room. I only did once when I had to sort out a problem with a credit card and needed internet so had to add charging (back when it was charged, wired internet). On that trip there were several times when we went and redeemed snack credits and when I checked the receipt they had in fact charged back to the room. It was easily sorted out with a return to the store, with the goods, receipt and KTTW card, but I didn't like it.

I like to know what I'm spending and I feel I have more control when I'm not having to mentally tally it up.

Our first few trips I did lots of shopping. I now don't really buy much at all and most of my spending is on experiences which are either pre-paid or specifically budgeted for at a set price so I feel like I have a better handle on it all :)

I completely understand from the budget part (not an issue for us as we don't buy a lot so it's only food that gets charged which is worked out in advance so I know roughly what we will spend) but in all my trips with the DDP I have never had them charge to the room instead of taking credits. I know it happens as I have read other reports but I can't believe with been lucky enough to miss that bit of imcompetence :rotfl2:

I totally understand where you're coming from.

In my opinion, the benefits far outweigh the risks and inconvenience.

To be fair, if there are errors charging to the room instead of the DDP, there can be similar errors charging to a gift card. For example if you pay for your TS meal with a TS credit, and then the gratuity with a gift card, there is also a chance for the Gift Card charge to go through twice, or for the wrong amount.

You will be able to see that straight away on the receipt.
A DDP charge will show $0 on the receipt, even if you don't keep track of the exact number of credits. So you know if it's been charged to the room instead if it shows a $ amount.
A Gift Card receipt will show you the charge and the remaining balance, and you'll also see if it's been mischarged.

In both cases you'll need to go to a "guest relation" or a manager of some kind to make it right.

My point here is that, whatever payment method you choose, there can (will) be errors. Even so when paying cash ... a sticky $10 bill on top of another $10 bill can mean that you leave a much bigger tip than you would have expected, and there is very little chance to ever get that money back (or even notice), unlike Gift cards and room charge.

I've weighed the pros and cons of both systems. And my conclusion (very humble $.02) is that using 2 payment methods for a single transaction (DDP credit and Gift Cards/Cash/CC) is multiplying by a factor 2 the risks of encountering an error of some sort.

ymmv :p
