Peak Periods for DVC?

I read in another thread that the peak periods for DVC are not necessarily the same as for the Disney resorts. Does anyone know what the peak/slow periods are for DVC? Thanks for your help!

Peak Period
Dec 1 -18
Thanksgiving (both in value season for points)
Oct 1 - 31 (wine/food festavial)
Nov 1-13 (wine/food festavial)

some weeks in the summer and spring breaks - but not all by any means.

I would place most of the weeks in summer and spring break on the off list.

off
May
Sept

jan use to be - but this year some members have reported not being able to get their room.

DVC is different from other timeshares - they don't have CRO. at the 60 day period any unused villa will go to CRO to be rented out. this is in your contract. (this is generally a good thing because the profit go to the general fund bottom line - so less fees the DVC members have to paid)

Is it VERY difficult/nearly impossible to get a 2-bedroom at BCV or BWV during a peak time (early Dec. to be exact -- that is when we've been going for the past several years and when we'd most likely want to use the DVC). I'd hate to invest in the DVC and not be able to go when we'd like to! Is BWV easier because there are more rooms?

If you own at BWV or BCV, you can book your Dec. vacation 11 months out and you're most likely to get what you ask for. Then 7 months away all dvc points are equal and anyone can book or try to book at BWV or BCV.

We own BWV and VWL and are happy to book our December vacations at either, we alternate.

BWV is a little easier - but not greatly.

if you want BWV during early Dec - I might try to get a small add on at BWV.
50 points is enough for a studio at BWV early Dec going with standard view points.

that does not mean that at 7th month time you won't be able to get it. Just don't count on getting it.

make the reservations now at your home resort and then try to change at the 7 month time if you can.

it appears you don't own yet. in this case if you want either of these resorts i'd suggest you buy them through resale. as DVC grows it will become (in my opinion) near impossible to book the smaller resorts during peak times without having the 11m window.

Crazywig,
Your're correct, I don't own yet - I'm still gathering information (and it sure is ALOT of information!) :earseek:
I'm still trying to decide if it makes sense to purchase, and if so, where. Leaning toward BCV, but if BWV has more rooms and better availability for early December, I'd go with BWV and start out with a small resale purchase (enough for Sun to Thurs, which, again, is the most popular time!). I really appreciate any/all help/comments/suggestions! Thanks again!

Can you book 11 months prior to arrival? If so, it doesn't matter whether you buy BCV or BWV - you'll be able to get what you want at the resort you purchase.

Pick the resort you like the best. As long as you book at 11 months, you are not going to have a problem.

If you want a standard view or a guaranteed BW view at the BWV, you'll have to call day by day at 11 months to get what you want, but you WILL get it.

All the talk about "tough to get" is really about the 7 month window. That's when any DVC member can book at any resort. If you book before the 7 month window opens, you will not have a problem (with the very few exceptions noted above when you should book day by day at 11 months).

Best wishes -

Thanks. I feel a little better knowing that! I've just posted a day by day question to you in another thread, but I think I understand what you mean now. Rooms are available at that time, but if you want standard view/guaranteed Boardwalk View (which are of limited availability), you have to call daily to get the rooms as they open up.

Now I just have to choose between BCV and BWV - I'm trying to talk DH into going down to "test" them both! :teeth:

I own at BWV, and both times we have stayed there, I've been able to get a Boardwalk view villa 11 months out with no problem, booking on a day by day basis.

BCV: take away the over-hyped pool, and the appeal of this resort drops about 60%. Does still have the Epcot area location, but villa views overall aren't nearly as nice as those at BWV. Dining is O.K. but over-subscribed. Plus, there's no Grand Villa (not that you'll definitely need it, but nice to know it's available if you ever want do the point bank/borrow-a-rama thing for some big family reunion type event).

BWV: worse thing you can say about BWV is it is tough -- even for owners here -- to get "budget" rooms (ergo, standard view studio) during the peak periods mentioned by spiceycat. Those are in mega-demand by seasoned DVCers who like to do "cheap' off season trips to things like the Food and Wine festival and prize the Epcot area setting.

What BWV it does have going for it (beyond location) is a just-as-classy but more relaxed feel than BCV and better dining/amenities, and arguably one of the best views in the entire time-share world from the Boardwalk view villas. Some also feel the CMs here are a cut above those found at BVC, but I wouldn't know.

I have absolutely no idea who these people are, but I like their shot of my home resort:
