We will be enjoying our first family WDW trip the first week of September with DD5 and DD2. We've recently discovered that DD2 is TERRIFIED of peacocks. Just the sound of them really freaks her out and if she runs into a peacock, she will become extremely scared and ask to go home. In an effort to not ruin our entire vacation, I'm hoping to avoid them entirely. Does anyone know if there are ANY peacocks on any Disney property? We are planning to visit AK as well as attend the Mickey's Backyard BBQ (I heard there might be one at Fort Wilderness somewhere). Help!

Are you from Cincy? My DD 9 still gets freaked by the "help" sound they make. I haven't seen them at WDW. The Cincy Zoo is another story!

I haven't seen any, and I've gone a lot. They may be somewhere on property, but you'd probably have to seek them out.

OP - My DD4 was afraid of peacocks like that at 2. Then her fear turned into a love and we ended up visiting every peacock we could find. Now, she's basically outgown them though. Not sure why, but sometimes little kids end up loving something they were afraid of. My friends DD did the same thing with wolves.

Good luck.

Depends on when you are going...We will be there Aug 26 to Sept 7 and our last name is PEACOCK!! So I guarantee there will be Peacocks on the property then!!:lmao:

But, I can tell you we never saw any when we were there. We saw bunnies by our hotel door and then some very strange bird at A & W - looked like a pelican with red trim, a long neck...I don't know how to describe it, but it was weird. It was eating from the garbages, but did not make a sound.

We have been to WDW too many times to count.
The only places I have ever seen peacocks are at the Treehouses (before, they were a separate resort. Now they are totally remodeled and are part of SSR).

The only other place that might have some wouldbe in AK, either in the Asia area or on the bird trail part of the wildlife trail.

I saw a peacock on the Safari (few years ago)

I saw a bunch of peacocks at FW going to the HDD a few years ago also.

I think all the peacocks are gone now. They used to be at Fort Wilderness but I think WDW has moved them somewhere else.

How funny! I guess there will be peacocks when we're there! We'll be there August 30-Sept 6!

Thanks for letting me know, guys! Now I don't have to worry or change any of our plans. The peacock fear has spread into other larger birds a little bit....chickens and that size. But it's really peacocks that's the terrifying thing! Sounds like we'll be okay. If anyone else spots peacocks, please let me know where! ;)

There were pea fowl on the original Discovery Island, I don't know where they moved those animals when the island closed.

There are guinea fowl in the Safari area, they can make annoying noises as well.

Good to know about the guinea fowl. She steered clear of them at the zoo the other day, too, and they weren't making any noise. Anyway, I think we'll be okay.

There used to be peacocks at Fort Wildernesss, but they aren't there any longer. Enjoy your visit to the Fort.

I am pretty sure the last time we were at Animal Kingdom, we saw Peacocks, however, they are not free roaming.
The Fort Wilderness - it has been years - but there were definately peacocks - an albion one that was just beautiful.
Call guest services - they can tell you, so you can be prepared.

OK. We promise not to scare your DD!! :lmao:

Where are you staying?

Amy "Peacock"

We're staying at All Star Movies. And we're so excited since it's the girls' first time and DH and I haven't been there in over 15 years and can't remember much!

Unfortunately all the peacocks, even the albino were removed from FW. I used to love looking for the albino, it would usually sit up in a tree near Pioneer Hall. I think they were removed for guest safety as well as their own, kids would chase the birds and some of the birds would "charge" at parked RVs and cars.

We are staying there too!! Oh-oh!! I hope your DD doesn't see us ;)

Have a great trip!! We loved our stay there last year and are looking forward to going again.

Maybe we will see you at the pool :)
