I've had some problems with my PC at home and as a last resort I did a Windows XP restore using the Windows XP Home disk supplied with the PC.

This has cured the problems, but I was wondering - do I now need to re-install service pack 2? (the original WIndows disk has only SP1).

Hey Tim,

I'd go to Microsoft.com and do that update thingie. I think you can open the add/remove programs window and see if Service Pack 2 is loaded also. If not, you're going to need it.

I've had so many problems with Service Pack 2, and have done about five wipe downs and reinstalls. The latest one has held for about 9 months--knock on wood.

Good luck.

I would do it if I were you Tim :) SP2 has some important security updates contained within it as well as some other extended features such as the windows firewall.

If you have a CD I would do it from that as it's liable to be quite a big download, once its done you can use the windows update site to make sure that you have all of the rest of the important updates installed :badpc:

Tim

If you haven't it on disk I believe you can order one free of charge from the Microsoft website.
