So yeah. I'm hopefully going to be looking for a laptop soon. Personally I'm leaning twards an Apple. I mean, first of all, it's a lot harder to get a virus on an Apple than a PC. Plus I've heard iTunes is a zillion times better on an Apple than a PC. I hate windows. I find it more complicated than it has to be. I've heard Macs come with more software already installed onto the computer, and that it is easier to use. My PC had next to nothing on it when I got it. I mean, it didn't even have Office on it, and it came with cheap virus protection that let everything through. :confused3

Plus the laptop I'm looking at has a 6 hour battery life. Very good considering that the next highest battery life I've seen is about 3 1/2 hours. It's light, and packed with features.

Seems completely reasonable to get an Apple right? Well apparently not. When I expressed my views on Apple, and how I would like to have an Apple laptop to my mom's boyfriend, he just came out and insulted me, and my opinion. He told me that choosing an Apple over a PC is like choosing a house because the toliet paper is nicer. He told me that an Apple is just as likely to get a virus as PCs. (hard to believe when you consider the fact that more viruses are made for Windows and PC's than Apples). He told me basically, that factoring in iTunes in my decision is completely ridiculous, because you can get iTunes on any computer. (although it works better on Apples). He also told me I need to get real, and stop buying into Apple's propoganda. :confused3

Well honestly, looking at what I would use it for, an Apple just makes more sense. I would be using it for A LOT of media stuff. Watching movies, listening, managing, and making music. You know, stuff like that. So honestly, am I making the right decision, or am I being an idiot, like I've been told. :confused3

I have both Macs and Windows in my house, and let me tell you, you're right.

Macs barely get viruses, if ever. Only very recently has a virus been released that can harm a Mac system. The system is simply stronger than a Windows. Don't believe me? Our Mac has never had one virus. Ever. My old Windows? By the time it crashed, it had three trojans and a self-installed program that finally caused the computer to crash. When did my computer tell me something was up? When a dead blue screen came up. By then it was too late and too expensive to fix. :badpc:

As for iTunes, it works fine on both machines. I'm only speaking for the program itself when you're playing back music. But since iTunes ties in with internet, I guess iTunes works better on Macs. Not only is the internet more dangerous on Windows, but it's slower, no matter what service you have. Every Windows I've worked with (and I've worked on a lot of them) has been slower than our Apple. That includes non-internet stuff.

As for what your Windows was missing, Apple includes everything. iLife (which comes with the computer) contains iTunes, GarageBand (a recording program, don't even get me started in comparing it to Windows programs), and I believe a word processor. I don't know the specifics on what iLife has in it, but you could always look on the Mac website and it'll tell you.

The only downside is that Apples are more expensive than Windows, but understandably so. They also have less expensive Macs now. There's one deal where you can buy just a system and attach it to your own monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Last time I looked it was around $500. Not too bad considering what's included in the machine.

So basically, Apple is hands down better than Windows. Plain and simple. Get a Mac. They may be expensive, but they last forever. My mom's old Mac from the 90s still works just fine. Think about that for a second.

Anyway, good luck! Hope I helped! :thumbsup2

um..idk, I have a PC laptop, and it came with everything already on it. But it has crashed 3 times this year. my mom is looking into buying an apple. it is true that there are less viruses but you cant always do everything with it that you can with a PC. It doesnt have the right software for somethings. but for what you are going to use it for, I think an apple would be fine. I'm looking into getting a tablet PC. but if apple comes out with a tablet in the next 2 years then i will deffinately get the apple one.

good luck!

Well if you are buying it then listen to you not other people...

I personally like the Windows better because I know how to work them and my schools apples have turned me off as they are slower than walking from new york to china.

These days, it's hard to choose. Macs use to be pieces of crap that ran a slow as a snail (i use metaphors!) PC's today run faster, but a lot of the viruses that are released into the "wild" are targeted at PC's instead of Macs. Today, the new Mac computer runs a whole lot faster and has a lot more to offer, without the danger of viruses being near as close as PCs. If you don't mind getting the virus protection software for a PC, then I guess a PC is the way to go. I am on a Dell laptop right now. I runs great. Don't know how well Mac laptops are but there worth a try I guess. In regards to mac's I-pod, I just think mac should just keep making the original I-pod instead of the I-pod nano, which is probably the biggest rip-off in my opinion.

I agree there. I think the nanos are for people who can't afford the more expensive ones. That's always been Mac's problem.

Well, being a Mac user my whole life and working for the Apple Store I am a little biased towards their computers. First off any computer (Pic's and Mac's) can get a virus. There are just a lot less of them aimed for Macs. The Mac OS X (Mac Operating System 10) is very secure, it is very well planned out, functions well, and it just looks nice too. These days you can have the ability to run any Windows program on you Mac. Oh, and you can run Windows XP on you Mac to. It is called Boot Camp, and Apple is testing it out. If you have a copy of Windows XP and a Mac (only the new Macs with the Intel chips in them) you can go to this link http://www.apple.com/macosx/bootcamp/ and download the software to do it. There super fast too! Apple doesn't like to boast there processor speeds like other PC computer companies. Apples older processors, the Power PC processors which are still in the PowerBook and the G5 desktop. Basically, they are more powerful then there PC counterparts processors. Now today with the new Intel chips more is possible. Regarding iTunes, it has more of a streamlined feel on the Mac. They are very durable computers, and they will last you years. Just to let you guys know, if your a college student, or you have a parent that is a teacher or works for a school you get a very nice discount from the Apple Store and at there online store. I encourage you to go to your nearest Apple Store and check out the products and see what you think. If you guys have any questions about anything relate to Apple I would be more then happy to answer them.

Here's the thing Munky, I don't own a Mac but I do know a lot about them. You said that you are going to use the laptop for Media applications mostly. The word Media tells me that you will be very very pleased with the Mac. Also the thing about viruses, there has been a competition for awhile that will give the winner $25,000 if they can program a virus to attack Macs then multiply to infect other Macs. No one has won the prize yet, lol. Can I ask a quick question though, what type of Mac laptop are you getting. If you're getting one of those new ones with the Intel chip, then you can have the Mac OS on it and also the Windows OS on it.

Mac is actually the operating system, the company is Apple. I think the Nano isn't really a rip-off, it's suited toward people who like to run and listen to music. Since it uses flash based memory, there are no moving parts so the hard drive won't get broken. The 5th Gen iPods use a regular Hard Drive which could get damaged if jostled around enough.

I have a mac (I'm on it right now!) and my dad has a PC laptop. I <3 my mac. It runs faster than my dad's PC and I think macs have more to offer. My old windows crashed several times and then just...died. I feel very safe with my mac too. Not one virus yet.

The only thing I need to get used to is the mouse. It only has one clicker instead of two. But to get past that all you have to do is his "Control+Click" but you don't worry about that because you said you might get a laptop. (Unless you plan to buy a mouse.)

I love my Mac <3.

That's what mine looks like. I also love how convienient it is. There's no tower to take up space.
