I TiVo'd the Jim Brickman concert that was on tonight. I watched part of it and was totally *censored* off.

I hate this time of year..well..ok. I hate ALL times of year when they have to beg for $$$. They ruined a perfectly good concert by breaking it up into sections so they could spend 20 min or so (total)begging like the dogs they are.

Granted, I do watch PBS, but not often now that we have cable because I hate how they are always asking for donations. It bothers me for some reason. Not sure why..it just does.

Public Broadcasting System relies on donations to put on programs like Seseme Street and other childrens programming. These concerts are put on knowing they are for fundraising. They did not ruin a perfectaly good concert, that concert was done for fundraising.

If PBS did not receive donations the shows we enjoy would go off the air... starting with the childrens programming.

I have a hard time believing someone who received a tag about rediscovering the joys of Seseme Street doesn't understand why they fundraise, how they aren't begging and that most certainly aren't dogs.

I love Sesame Street..have since I was a kid. But there HAS to be better ways to get people to give them money than to beg the way they do.

It just gets my nerves that the only time they show the 'good stuff' on PBS (stuff that I can watch with DH or whatever)is when they are begging for money.

If there was a better way they'd do it. I've worked those fundraisers (they ran the local PBS affiliate out of my college), no one likes that they have to do it.

If people thought to donate they wouldn't have to fundraise. PBS wouldn't be in a constant state of worry that they are going to be shut down.

I take it you called and donated to help support the station that gives you the show you so much enjoy and to help them be able to stop fundraising?

Remember: "PBS gets it's support from people like you."

I did not. We don't have the money right now.
Besides, if PBS goes off the air, well that's what we have cable for. There's always Disney channel and TickleU on Cartoon Network and a host of other fine children's programming out there. PBS is not the be-all end all of children's programming.

And before somebody starts in..we only have 'extended basic' which is the 2nd cheapest package they offer. "Basic" only offers local channels and for like 15 bucks more you can get 'extended basic' which has something like 50-60 channels. It's not like it's expensive.

Wait, you don't have $$ to donate to PBS but you have cable? You have no room to gripe that PBS is doing fundraising. Even $5.00 helps.

If money is seriously that tight that you can't even afford to donate $5.00 you really can't afford that cable. But if you insist on spending it take $40* for "basic" cable and send it to PBS, turn off the screamtoons and put your son infront of real educational programming.

*basic cable where I live is $40. Really basic is $15.

Disney Channel and TickleU are no comparison to the education both my daughters and I get by watching PBS. No comparison at all.

I understand money is tight. It's tight for me, and I donated when I did have money. I couldn't donate myelf right now. But you don't need to donate to support PBS:

Seriously? Like others have already told you- No fundraising=no concert. If you don't like it, stop watching PBS.

You're quite tiring to follow and honestly not worth the effort. How do YOU keep up with all this drama, let alone expect us to?

Am I expected to get a bloody Tivo myself, whatever that is, to follow your antics? I've got things more important in my life, could you try to give us the abridged version from now on, please?

You know, complaining about it and leaving it to that empirical "someone else" is a great way for that program you really wanted to see to go away.

I had a long post detailing all the reasons why you should contribute and keep your yap closed about the begging, but I realize that it's beating a dead horse. You're not going to listen to all these fine people explaining why paying for the programming is worth it.

Anyone got some good h'ors d'oevres recipes they care to share? I'd like to be prepared for the holiday potlucks at work!

I also recommend Costco. They have large boxes of Quiche and mixed boxes of h'os d'oevers.

Mushroom Cups

Ingredients:
1 c Chopped onions
2 c Chopped mushrooms
3 tb Margarine
1/2 c Chopped parsley
2 ea Egg yolks
3/4 c Grated mozzarella cheese
1/2 c Grated parmasean cheese
1 ts Salt
8 ea Sliced white bread
1/2 c Melted butter

**Yield 32**

Preparation:
Saute onions and mushrooms in margarine. Remove from heat. Add parsley, eggs, cheeses and seasoning. Combine well. Trim crusts from bread and cut into 4 equal squares. Roll pieces flat with a rolling pin. Dip bread in melted butter and arrange in miniture muffin tins. Fill each with mushroom-cheese mixture. Bake 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes.

Cheese-Topped Mushrooms

1 pound fresh mushroom
1 pound bulk pork sausage
1 clove garlic, minced
2 tablespoons chopped parsley
1-1/2 cups (6 ounces) shredded cheddar cheese
chopped cranberries (optional)
fresh snipped parsley (optional)

Rinse mushrooms and pat dry; remove stems. Chop stems. Combine stems, sausage, garlic and chopped parsley in a medium skillet; cook until sausage is browned, stirring often. Drain pan drippings. Stir in cheese, mixing well.

Fill mushroom caps with sausage mixture. Place in a 13-by-9-by-2-inch baking dish. Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes. Garnish with cranberries and snipped parsley, if desired. Serves 8 as an appetizer.
