We booked reward flights for our upcoming December trip about 6 weeks ago...
I try to "reprice" and check the flights we are on often.

Sure enough..Return flight from Orlando dropped this morning..

Called Southwest and I saved some points!
Very efficient...No change fee charge...points automatically went back into our account! NICE!:thumbsup2

Definitely! Ours has dropped a few times and we've gotten back around 5,000 points!

I just booked with Southwest. If I see a price drop, can I rebook thru their website, or do I have to call. We used cash, not points.

Just go online and click change flight, put in your confirmation and then it will take you to the normal search page. Find the flight you want and it will show the price change on check out. You will see either a credit or be prompted to pay the difference. We did this last year and got a $172 credit just for checking!

Better in all of our pockets!:thumbsup2
More money to spend at WDW,lol!:;)

VERY LIBERAL policy with NO CHANGE FEES, unlike other airlines!:sad1:

You do realize that you aren't actually getting a refund, just a credit?

I sometimes wonder how many people are actually able to use their credits? I'll bet Southwest makes millions every year on unused credits.

Credit for a revenue paying ticket toward next yr's travel is better than NONE!:thumbsup2

I would be to check to be sure but you have at least a year to use the credit, certainly better than losing the funds if you fly a lot like me. We're always going somewhere and it's nice to have. Last trip I flew for $7 to jax because I had two credits from previous flights .

The credit is only good for a year from the booking date rather than the cancelled flight date. I had 2 $125 credits that expired before I could use them. And the money credit belongs to each person 's account so I couldn't combine my credit and daughters credit to buy a ticket for my son.

So I would rather book on points and if flight goes down I get points back that don't expire as long as my Rapid Reward account is active

congrats!

not that it's happened lately, but I hopefully check my booked flights jik they will drop. Didn't realize you could just call for point adjustment vs fiddling around online, thanks.:)

I checked last night and saved about 3,500 points each for 3 reservations. They had changed a flight time on us, and it wouldn't allow me to make the change online, but when I called, the cust. serv. rep. took care of it for me.

Regarding the credit, or funds, on acct to use on your next flight: I understand that the credit expires 1 yr from the original purchase date, however, I'm confused if the next ticket needs only to be purchased before the expiration date. In other words, if I have a credit that expires on June 1, 2015, can I purchase the new ticket using the credit on May 1, 2015, for a flight that will be on September 12, 2015?

OR does both the ticket purchase AND the new flight both need to take place before the expiration date?

Thanks for the help.

I think it must be bought and actually used within that year time frame. That's what makes it such a pain to use the credit in time. I do recall reading that you can buy a 6 mo extension though I've never called to confirm that. I like using the points, very easy to do and use those whenever you want and for whoever you want! Definitely pays to stalk SW and your booked flights, watching for fare reductions! And the points go back immediately so you can rebook right away for the lower fare!

It is my understanding that the new ticket using the credit must be PURCHASED within 1 yr of date of issuance of the original ticket, but the travel dates for the new ticket can be after the 1 yr mark. Check though with SW!:)

Sorry this is incorrect. Tickets must be purchased AND travel completed within 1 year of the original purchase date.

SO MUCH EASIER on reward tickets...Just an "adjustment" of reward balance and no restrictions on using credits!:thumbsup2:dance3:

SWA is so great for stuff like this.... I just rebooked an entire vacation, (had to switch dates) and it turns out my new flights are much cheaper than my november flights.... and no problems,I booked using reward points, and changed easily! it does pay to check and recheck (January prices are pretty good right now)

Exactly why I continue to stalk SW, lol! So much more freedom knowing you can switch your trip and not have to worry about restrictions making things difficult or unusable!

When you "repriced", have you ever noticed that a flight which was previously sold out has opened back up? The original flight I wanted was sold out within 2 days of opening up. Just wondering what the odds of it opening back up are.
