So this will be my first Disney Cruise. I have a couple of questions about payment. I had assumed you had to pay in full when you book. From reading various threads over the last few weeks, I see you can pay a deposit and then make monthly payments? So 10% down and then pay monthly?

If you book with Disney direct and then later transfer to Costco how does the payments work? Do you pay Costco monthly? Can you even transfer your cruise over if its not been paid in full?

I ask this because reading on Costco's travel site, it says that your cruise must be paid in full at booking. So that confused me.

Really? I thought they just required a deposit. If you do a pretend booking on the DCL website for the same cruise you will see that you have a certain amount of time to pay the deposit then after that there's a certain amount of time before you need to be paid in full. That's at minimum 75 days out for most cruises. If you we trying to book after the PIF date or a guaranteed rate cruise, then, yes, you have to pay in full.

Have not used Costco, booked directly with DCL - where you pay your deposit and do not have to pay another dime until the PIF date. Costco can set their own payment terms and conditions. I would contact Costco directly for clarification.

The deposit is normally 20%, unless they are running a special of only 10%. I believe concierge staterooms are 20% regardless of the 10% specials. There is no set monthly payment that I have heard.

Paid in Full Dates:
Cruise less than 10 days (US Port): 75 days; Concierge/Suites 90 days
Cruise less than 10 days (Non-US Port): 120 days; Concierge/Suites 150 days
Cruise more 10 days or more: 120 days; Concierge/Suites 150 days

We booked our first Disney Cruise for January 2013 through Costco. While on board we booked our August 2014 Alaskan Cruise to take advantage of the discounts. When we got home I called Costco and had it transferred to them with no problem. We still get the Costco cash card and can make payments on it directly with Costco.

:thumbsup2

I booked through Costco and the deposit was the same as the Disney site. 20%. You will make subsequent payments via the Costco website but they will show as Disney on your card statement.

The one thing I saw to watch for with Costco is that it scheduled a charge automatically for the balance of the cruise when I booked. It was scheduled for about 80 days or so before the cruise, to roughly coincide with Disney's 75 day requirement. The problem is I paid our reservation off early and the scheduled payment didn't go away. Wasn't a big problem, I called the toll free number on the Costco site and the agent on the phone was able to remove it, took only a couple minutes.

Costco travel is no different than any other TA when it comes to transfers, as long as you are within 30 days of booking. Transfers can be done immediately after booking, I had mine processed right after I booked with dcl directly, does not require payment in full....

Timing of how you pay is up to you, you can pay a bit daily, weekly, monthly, etc. or just pay the balance at once before your pay in full date. If you are booking a cruise within the 75 day window than yes your cruise must be paid in full at time of booking....

Thanks everyone. I think I see where my confusion was. I was booking a dummy cruise and it was probably AFTER the pay in full date. Which means I had to pay for the entire booking for that cruise only. I think that was confusing me.
