DH and I are trying to figure out how much money we should take with us.

The thing is we don't have a credit card, other than our debit card. I read that if you use a debit card you have to put a $500 hold on it...I can't tie up that much of my debit card at one time.

I would really like to just pay cash. Is there an amount of cash I'd have to put up front? Can someone tell me how that would work? I'd appreciate it.

I don't know if you have to put any cash up front, but I do know you can pay with a personal check.

When we cruised in 6/01, we brought $1200 in Traveler's Checks with us..it was myself, DH and 2 kids. Every other day, I went to Guest Services, paid off what was on my account and put in alittle extra..at the end of the cruise, we were all paid off, except for some last minute photos at Shutters the night before we disembarked...they charged this amount to the credit card we gave when checking in. This worked out very well for us as I did not want to put the charges on my credit card...wanted to walk off the ship "paid in full"!! We plan on doing the same when we cruise this June. By the way, out of $1200, we spent just about $1,000....

Great Idea JOBRO!

While I have a credit card, I like to be paid in full when I'm done.

I will steal your travellers check idea and use it on the ship.

Thanks.

IF your credit card rebates a percentage of all charges, you might want to set the money aside at home but use the card anyway. Just a thought...

When I cruised on NCL Dec 01 I walked off that ship owing NOTHING - paid off my act every other day.

This time Im also planning on paying most of it off before we get off ship - wonderful feeling

I never did this before, but I want to do this on our next cruise (thanks for the tip). I would love to walk off the ship with no extra charges on my credit card!

So far most that have responded secured their account with a credit card, but paid it off as the week went on. Since you don't have the credit card to do this, it is probably best if you call DCL directly and ask them how exactly it will work.

Good luck and have fun!

You can pay with cash/check/travelers checks. The first year I forgot to fill out the credit card slip. What they do is block off your account at $400. At that point you go down to guest services and pay off the amount.
