I have accumulated about $400 rewards dollars with my Disney VISA. How do I use them to pay for my vacation? And, if for some reason I need to cancel my trip, can I get them refunded or are they just gone?

First you need to order your reward card. Once you get that you can basically use it like a credit card either towards your vacation, or keep it and use it once you're down there.

Yes, if you have to cancel, you can have it refunded to the card (I know that from firsthand experience). Once they're on the card, they do expire (I THINK it's 2 years..) BUT, if you're getting close to that time, you can always buy a gift card with it and then you won't lose them.

I had about $1800 points that I used on our June trip and it was super easy.

Have fun!

While you can only earn $750 per calendar year (which translates into $75,000 worth of purchases), you can still bank points for up to 5 years (based upon the date that the accumulated points were first transferred).

So, it is possible to have a Rewards card with $3,750 dollars on it. (Of course that would mean that you spent $375,000 with it in 5 years.):scared1:

Actually, I believe you can stretch it up to 7 years...the points have to be transferred to a card within 5 years and then you have 2 years to use those points...

I think I managed the $1800 in about 3 1/2 years....I put EVERYTHING on it except my house and car payment (and I would do that if I could) It's actually easiest this way because I can track all of our money (and yes, I pay it off in full each and every month). Phone bill, gas, electricity, cable, cell phone, groceries, car insurance, Dr's visits, dining out...you name it.

Oh and $1800 is about what we spent for a family of 6 in Disney for 10 days on food.

We also put just about everything on our card (and also pay it off every month). I know it's only 1%, but it amounts to something. LY, we went to WDW with $550 which really helped minimize our OOP costs. I would pay my mortgage on it if I could!

I have heard of some people putting their mortgages on their CC, but I called my mortgage company and they wouldn't let me do it! I would also like to put DD's school tuition on there, and my car payment.

I asked about putting tuition on the card at DD's school, and I could tell they felt awkward, and kind of bad for me...and then I realized they probably thought I was having trouble paying...so I quickly told them I wanted the points for Disney!

My DH owns a small business and has a CC for it...can he get a Disney Rewards Visa for the business? Or are the folks at Chase Visa "on to" that scheme? We could really rack up some reward dollars that way.

Can the rewards be used at any gift shop or Restaurant inside disney or DTD? Plant Hollywood in particular.

Slightly off topic, what I plan on doing is buying Disney Gift cards about 2 months before the trip -- like $500 to $1000 worth -- (this way the points come through for me to transfer) and then taking those and paying my charges to the room with them. If I decide not to do the dining plan, I will get more gift cards and use them for my food as well. My goal is to not pay ANYTHING out of pocket (aside from little things like tips, snacks etc.) and I've told everyone I know that if they plan on buying me Christmas and birthday gifts (my birthday is in November) I want Disney gift cards.

Is it January yet????

Any gift shop or restaurant in the parks or at a Disney resort? Yes
Other restaurants (such as at Swan, Dolphin or DTD)? I don't think so (but they can be used at the gift shops at S/D). Specifically, I don't think they can be used at Planet Hollywood, but if I am wring, someone will correct me, I am sure.

I don't think Planet Hollywood takes the card.

I always use mine at World of Disney. I have the Disney visa so it's nice getting the 10% off as well as getting money off with the reward card and I save alot:woohoo:

hddanis, you are the first person I've seen on this board who has more Disney Visa dollars than I do!!!! Congrats! We,too, put everything on the card and pay it off every month, so it is truly free money. Last trip we had $1005, and that fed our family of 5 (whatever we wanted) for 7 1/2 days.

I have $1583 accumulated so far for our Thanksgiving trip. As we are only there for 6 days, I figure I'll use it for food, then pay the balance on our resort bill.

That's exactly what I've started doing!! I've been buying $100 worth of Disney Dollars on the card for the last few months just to get the rewards dollars on it & have money put aside for our trip in Nov. I figured I'd rather have the rewards now before we go instead of after when we come home & have to pay off the bill. No DDP for us, so I know I'll be spending the money I'm getting.

I never thought of doing that!!! Is the Disney Store the only place you can purchase Disney Gift Cards?

How long does it take to get the "rewards card" in, and then how long does it take to add "rewards" to it?

Thanks for the great tips!!!

I ordered my card so long ago I really forget but I think it was like 2 weeks to get, once I ordered thru Disney Visa and then once you have that, it takes a minute to put those points on the card -- you just go on line and BOOM!!

Another thing, I'm going on a work trip in September and I plan on putting ALL my work charges on there. They give me a check for expenses so I am just going to get it and pay it right off. (Even the hotel room).

Every time I purchase something I say "that's another penny towards Disney"

I just got my rewards card this week and it expires in December of next year.

We finally talked my parents into going to WDW next month. We booked the trip last fall and the first thing I did was sign my DM up for the Disney Visa. Boy did she get into this! She also transferred any bill she could and then just paid the bill at the end of each month. They also made several large purchases (that would have originally exceeded their credit line) they simply called, explained, had the limit increased and purchased their newest two 4 wheelers! Needless to say, since Oct 06 to their most recent statement, they accumulated 739 points! DM can't wait to shop at WDW, she's like a kid in a candy shop!

Get your card first load it up with points and tell them to make a payment under disney visa rewards card and they make the payment for you. Very simple. I would call about what happens if you cancel. I am not sure on that one.
