If paying with a Disney giftcard at a table service meal, can I leave tip on this card and it's deducted from the amount on the card? Or do I need to bring cash to leave the tip that way?

You can add it to the bill and pay the check with the Gift Card. It will be deducted from the gift card. We use our MB to charge everything to our room account. Then we pay that bill off with the Gift Cards. No need to carry the cards. Easy Peasy
Ditto:) I will payoff balance every 2-3 days with my GCs, plus I get a detailed printout that I can go over.

Same here. Leave the card in the safe.

how do you make sure they dont charge your credit card on file instead? We have used gift cards the last few years for all food but used them at the restaurant.

No charge will be made to your credit card on file until you hit a resort threshold ($2500 for deluxe and $1500 for mods and values - maybe it's $2500 for mods as well), or until about 2am of the morning you will be checking out.

Until that point, anything charged to your room via your MB is just a debit on your account. You can pay on your account at any time with cash, giftcard or credit card. To avoid an inadvertent charge to your credit card, just stop by the front desk every couple of days, ask for a print out of your bill (so you can check for accuracy - mistakes do happen) and then use the gift card(s) to pay the bill. It's pretty easy and doesn't take much time.

thanks! Good to know, we have always just carried a stack of gift cards and paid as we went, including tip at all TS places with the giftcards. Will give this some thought.

Personally, I prefer to just use the giftcards everywhere like I would a debit card. Are you aware that the disneygiftcard.com site provides a means for you to consolidate that stack of cards - up to $1000 - onto one card? This saves me from dealing with the "stack".

I didn't know you could do this! We've collected a LOT of gift cards over this last year and plan to use them for everything. So we can use the Magic Bands to pay for meals, souvenirs, etc. and then just go to the desk every couple of days with the gift cards to pay it down?? That is great and we don't have to worry about carrying all those cards around! :) (Is there anywhere you can't use GC's?)

Didn't know this either! :)

Yes- definitely pay off your room bill every couple of days if you want to apply your gift cards. I've had my room account charged to my credit card on file well before the resort limit was reached - in fact I wasn't even at 50% of the limit. It didn't matter to me but if I had been paying with gift cards I wouldn't have been too thrilled about that.

One more nice feature on the gift card site: you can keep up to 5 giftcards stored on your account at any one time (you can have as many as you want, but only 5 can be stored at s time). This allows you to transfer the funds (total amount only) from one card to any of the others very quickly. This is handy should you lose a card. You can just transfer the money from the list card to one of the others. I always keep an empty card around just for this eventuality.
For the cards that are stored on your account, the remaining balance of each card is displayed on the site (which I access on my phone). Very convenient.

We've had this happen before, but they will reverse it and refund the CC and then take the GC.

this is my fear, having to keep checking and making sure it didnt go to the credit card and getting in line to Pay at guest services every few days... think we will stick to our pay as we go with the Gift cards. the balance is printed on the receipt each time and I just usually wrap the last receipt on the card that we are using till we move to the next.
