Hi all,

A little background: Dbf and I pay all of our TS meals OOP with the DDE discount. Our routine is to get the check un-discounted, then give it back with our credit/debit card and our DDE card to apply discount first. This has always worked for us.

Anyway, I know that visa gift cards are accepted at WDW, however, I also know that some restaurants attempt to hold the amount of your bill plus 20%--and if you do not have that amount on the card, it will get declined. I also know that the tip is your discretion and only that amount with the total of the bill will be eventually charged.

What I want to know is this: Will we be able to do our normal paying routine, and in any of your experience or knowledge, do WDW restaurants do the bill + 20% hold before charging?

Thanks in advanced!

I've not had this happen when using a gift card. If the amount remaining in the gift card is less than the amount of the bill, the gift card gets charged for whatever is remaining and I make up the difference with whatever form of payment I want. I've never had a gift card declined because the amount remaining was less than the bill + 20%.

DITTO!!! I've never had that problem either.

Not at Disney, but paying for meals with giftcards, I too have just been given a second bill for the remaining amount due when the giftcard had a low balance. :thumbsup2

Maybe your server hasn't recognized it was a giftcard....Waitstaff traditionally call/key in about your creditcard and make sure it will cover the bill plus 20% to be sure their tip will be covered by sufficient funds. ;)

I would not worry. But if you are someone who is easily embarassed by questions about your card ( I am not) you may wish to use it for items, or pay with a credit card and pay your credit card balance with the gift card. :boat:
