Why do so many people talk about paying OOP on the DDP? It seems everyone talks about having extra credits left over, there's so much food(too much, some say), yet people talk about paying OOP. I don't understand why anyone would have to pay OOP for a meal on the DDP. In several trips on the DDP, I've only paid for one CS meal OOP, and that was because I'd lost my room key. So at the end of my trip, I had an extra CS meal, which I took on the airplane and ate (except the drink). Yes, some meals were probably not "good use"/expensive enough, and a few snacks were just bottled water. But the point is, I never paid for any food (except for that one time)in addition to the plan. But I also never had any credits left over at the end of the trip! Isn't that the way the plan is supposed to work? I don't understand how people are paying OOP but complaining about the DDP being too much food and having credits left over at the end of the trip. Hopefully, these are all different people. Someone, please explain it!

Usually it has to do with going to 2TS places. For example, on our trip we were there 7 full days which means we have 6 TS credits. We booked HDDR which was 2 TS and CRT which was 2 TS. That is only 2 meals using up 4 credits and we only have 6 credits. So, that leaves 2 more TS credits and 5 days of Disney left. We payed out of pocket for CRT since we thought $30 for an adult meal was better to pay cash than use up 2 TS. In turn, we got to eat at HDDR, CP, Mama Melrose (Fantasmic), Coral Reef, and Ohana all on the dining plan. We used CS for all lunches and one dinner. We did end up with extra CS at the end b/c we split a lot. We ate breakfast on the last day with these and took sandwiches to go. Does that make sense?

We're doing it once this time. We're going to buy CS OOP for 1 evening meal and "bank" that TS credit so we can eat at a 2-credit restaurant (Narcoosee's) later in the week. It just makes more sense to us to pay $30 or $40 OOP 1 night to have a dining experience we'd not have otherwise.

I can't answer for everyone, but here is why we do it:

We are TS people. Our upcoming trip is 10 days (9 TS meals) and we have booked 14 TS meals so we will be paying OOP for 5 of them (all are either breakfast or lunch). At the end of the trip we may have a couple of CS credits leftover, but we usually just use them to grab a late lunch/early dinner at the resort before heading to the airport.

I can think of at least three things which could cause you to pay OOP on the DDP.
1. If you get there early, and leave late, then the number of credits will not match the number of days there.. if I get to DW at 8am Sun, leave 8pm Sat, that is 7 full days and only 6 cs and 6 ts meals... I'm going to need to eat that extra full day

2. If you want to eat at 2credit places

3. If you like the eat three meals a day.

Some people think it's a lot of food, but I've heard other say its not enough. Depends on how you eat.

We have one TS that takes up 2 TS credits so we always have one meal OOP and that is always Rainforest Cafe. It is one of our favorites and since we eat at the one DTD it is not on the DP anyway so we have't to pay OOP in order to get the 2 to equal out...:rolleyes1

I have been there 3 times on the DDP and never bought OOP except for a croisant for breakfast. My DH gets a breakfast and my DS and I split our lunch with the family. Then we have our TS for dinner.

This coming trip we are on free dining. After I had all of my Ressie's I managed to snap a breakfast at CRT...so that will be OOP. I never understood it either...but like a previous poster said....If you arrive early and leave late you don't match up for meals per day. I can't see using 2 tables for CRT breakfast. That is just too much in my opinion.

We're going to pay for a couple OOP meals because we want to go to Jiko and Narcoosees (taking 4 of 7 credits for that). Also, I would like to eat at either Kimonos or Tempura Kiku, and neither are on the DDP.

For us, when we book an early breakfast, we like to still do a sit down dinner that evening. So we'll pay OOP usually for the breakfast.

OR if you can drive in like we do, you get in later than dinner your first night and then only have time for breakfast the day you leave. We were left with one extra TS and one extra snack per person the day we left.

Well for us, we have certain 2TS restaurants that we like to go too. In Dec, we're going to Jiko, Citricos, and Brown Derby. So we pay OOP for the cheaper TS restaurants we go too like Ohana and Tony Time Square grand gathering breakfast.

Also I know a lot of people can split meals but dh and I can't do this. He maybe tall and thin but the boy can eat. I would get maybe 2 bites of something if we tried to share. Plus usually we like totally opposite things on a menu.

Number 1 will apply to us this October. We will get there at 8am and we don't leave until 6pm on our last day, so we will have a couple of meals that we will have to pay OOP.

In our case we are paying OOP for YSH to get 2 TS credits back, we book a lot of sit down meals so we're also paying for SFD lunch .. If your fine having a counter for lunch and no sit down breakfasts the plan works great.

I think when people are saying they have a lot of credits left, they are snack or even counter service credits. I don't hear of a lot of people saying they have a lot (or any) table service credits. As other posters have said, sometimes people use 2 TS credits for one meal, so they'll have to pay OOP another night (or morning or lunch) to break even if they are planning on using all of their other credits.

We like table service meals, so we may have a breakfast and a dinner, but we might not use the counter sertvice credits. We have the free DDP, but if it were paid for then we probably would use DDE instead.

I use both the DDE and DDP. We usually arrive in the morning and leave at night so our credits do not match up. If my mom is with me, she is a very brittle diabetic and must eat three meals a day plus two snacks. Also we like TS, so usually book more than we have credits for, pay OOP using my DDE card, then she will use the extra CS for her breakfast or else we'll get something to eat at the airport on our last day.

We are using the Dining Plan (Free Dining) for the first time In August for four nights. I plan to pay OOP for lunch at the Brown Derby. We like TS meals. We won't enjoy the CS meals nearly as much. We plan on a DDP breakfast at the Crystal Palace, and dinners at Cape May, Chefs de France and Boma. We really want to have lunch at the Brown Derby (a two credit TS restaurant) so we've decided to pay for it. We will probably have a Cobb Salad and dessert, so it won't cost us too much.

Otherwise, I don't expect to spend much else OOP. I think it will be fun to experience Free Dining.

Our upcoming trip will be my first "real" trip to WDW, as the only time I've been there was for a quick one day stop there on the way home on another trip. My DS8 has never been there. The restaurants look/sound like an adventure in itself, so I wanted to go to kid friendly places so my son will remember them, too! So, I believe I booked one more TS than we have credits for, but truly don't mind paying OOP. We so rarely go on a vacation that I want to make this memorable in all ways. :)

12 days around Thanksgiving ...we will be using DDP for first half of visit at CBR, and then transfering to the poly...i booked room only on second half of ressie so no DDP but we will be using Disney reward dollars, magicard and OOP. :goodvibes

We prefer TS and usually use them all up and have a bunch of CS left anyways.
