Paying off a room only question

I recall years ago seeing posts where people said when they tried to pay off a room only reservation before they went that Disney would actually end up refunding anything above the deposit back.

Is this still true/was it ever true? I would much rather pay off my room for November before we go, then when we get there.

I have never had any trouble paying a RO reservation off prior to arrival, but I have heard what you described here happening to others. I think this might have something to do with a RO that is booked online, but I'm not sure. For some reason I want to say that if you book online rather than call, those RO reservations can't have payments applied ahead of time. But again, I'm not 100% sure, although I have read reports from others in the past that money paid above and beyond the deposit was credited back to their cc .

I never book online so I think I will give it a shot at paying it off before we go. Now to just wait and see if I can apply this possible new RO discount that should be coming out in the next week. We already have a AAA but saving more money is always fun!

We booked a standard room at Pop and directly paid 100 %. When the additional discounts came out, I called and upgraded to a preffered pool view. There were still something like 30 $ that we have had paid too much then.

The CM asked me to credit the amount back to my credit card or to put in on our reservation for spending it with our KTTW-cards (or hopefully magicbands).
