Paying kids for good grades?

I think that it's okay to reward good grades with money. We give our children, ages 15 and 13, $1 for every A that they make.

They received their report cards yesterday. Our son will get $6 and our daughter $4.

Since we don't give them an allowance, this gives them a couple of extra bucks in their pocket.

We will not pay her for good grades. We have an expectation that she will try her hardest. She is very bright, and we have never been disappointed in her report cards.

Her reward for any great scholastic achievement is breakfast in bed. This is for both report cards and sometimes for achieving a particular goal.

She loves the attention. Heh - you have to feed your kids anyways. We set up the tray in our bed, put the remote on the tray. She casually munches on breakfast, sometimes as long as an hour. And, we usually give her a family radio, so that she may "page" us if she needs something more, or if she would like the tray removed.

And, as a bonus, DH and I get that amount of time to peacefully read the Sunday paper!

We do not pay our DS's for good rades, but we make it a point to find all of the places in our area that give rewards. We always go to Chuck E. Cheese with their report cards (3 free tokens for every A, 2 forevery B), BlockBuster (free kids movie rental for a B average or better) and a local deli that gives free ice-cream cone for good report cards.

We also don't pay our kids for good grades. We expect them to do their best, and always praise good report cards and grades. We do take them out for dinner, and maybe buy them a small reward for good report cards.
