Paying for trip with Disney Gift Cards from Target

Just an FYI if you have a Room Only reservation - you won't be able to pay on your balance online.

That is what I have and I did not have a link to pay online. I called Disney to ask about it and they had me call Tech Support to fix the issue. Tech Support said there is nothing to fix. The system is not set up to take payments online for Room Only reservations.

However, you can call in your payments. You can have a live agent do key them in or you can use the automated system. I went with the automated system. I called in $800 worth of gift cards in one sitting and it took about 35 minutes. It gets repetitive but it works.

Same here. Room only reservation could not be paid online for us with a gift card.

Once you check in can the gcs be added to reservation to pay for tickets, food, and souvernoirs or will we have to carry around the gcs for that day?

I also had success using the 5% off coupon and my red card discount. I purchased $1,000 in gift cards and paid $902.50. I also had a $5 off $50 target coupon I received in the mail and, with the red card discount, bought one $50 card for $42.75.

Can you pay through a TA site like DU with the cards? I don't have a current reservation so I can't log on and look. If not, if you use a TA, can you bypass their site and pay DCL directly?

I just got a 5% coupon in the mail from Target that can be used with the 5% I get from the Red Card.

It says the max discount can be $50, so I'm going to try to get $500 in gift cards for our Nov 2013 trip. I'm hoping it works. This will be my first time buying that many $50 gift cards.

I usually get 5% off, but my coupon I got in the mail states I can get another 5% off in addition to the 5% I normally get with the Red Card.

I assumed that would be 10% off, and since the coupon states the max discount is $50, I'm assuming I can only get $500 in gift cards.

So, I can actually buy $1000 and get the 5% off with the Red Card and the 5% off with the coupon at the same time?

I know I sound weird, but I'm confused and want to make sure I get the most gift cards for my 5% Red Card and additional 5% coupon.

On our last WDW trip in April 2012, we had booked a meal at the 50's Prime Time Cafe. When we arrived at the restaurant, I asked at the front desk if I could use Disney gift cards to pay for our meal. "Of course", I was told. Great.

Before the surly CM took our order (And that's another story, but everyone has bad days, including Disney CMs. And she definitely wasn't in" any kind of stern character for the Prime Time.), I explained that we would be paying for our meal with Disney gift cards. She kind of frowned and said that she had to ask her manager if that was permissible. Minutes later, a cheerful manager arrived at our table and said that he had to "run" the gift cards to make sure everything was in order. I had bought the gift cards at Target the week before and they had not been used, so I knew everything was going to be "in order". The manager returned and handed me the gift cards, along with a receipt that showed that each gift card had a balance on it of $25.00.

At the end of the meal, we gave our bill and gift cards to the server. She came back and snottily explained that none of them were working. I pointed out that she was right there when the manager told us they were fine and I handed her the gift card balance receipt. I politely asked her to "run" the cards again. She hurried off.

At this point, my husband had had it with her nasty attitude and asked me, "Does she think we're not going to tip her or something?" Perhaps that was part of her problem, but she needn't had worried. Despite her nastiness, we were going to tip her and in CA$H, too.

The server came back and said that the gift cards had worked this time. Needless to say, I don't think we'll be paying with Disney gift cards for a meal anytime soon.

I didnt ask any question I just got all of my disney cards went to the register she rang all 900 of them up then I gave her my coupon for 5% off then I had her scan the phones for the 2 $5 cards and the $2 card then I swiped my target debit card. They never even batted an eye.

I got the 5% off in the mail, but do not have a $5 card on my phone. Where did you find this? Thanks.

The $5 and $2 discounts she was getting are from an App called Shopkick. They did not come in the mail, they are on her phone.

I used $2000 in GC (from Target) last trip also, and it all worked fine. I too received the extra 5% off over the weekend and I ALWAYS give my coupons FIRST before swiping my card.

For anyone looking to "save" more money for your trip. Watch all of the Target "buy 2 get gift card" deals. I buy Laundry soap, Downey, Razors and such when they are running these deals - on top of that there are ALWAYS coupons for these items so I stack my coupons with the gift card deal and I save the gift cards.

(Example: Razors are $9.84 each, buy 2 get $5 GC - I had 2 $4 off coupons. So the razors were 5.84 each and I walked out with $5 GC)

Oh - and if you use a target gift card to pay for any portion at check out, you WILL NOT get 5% off of the gift card amount.....

FYI -
You buy $100 in Disney gift cards
you pay for $25 with a target gift card
you will ONLY get the discount on $75

Once you check in can the gcs be added to reservation to pay for tickets, food, and souvernoirs or will we have to carry around the gcs for that day?

Yes, once you can check in, you can do that. Or you can just do charging privileges to the room and once a day (or every other day), go and pay the balance off with your gift cards.

This goes to show you that everyone has a different experience...In May/June, we used well over 1000$ in GCs for meals, tips, alcohol, etc. In 14 days, we didn't have one problem, and I didn't use a bit of cash the entire trip...just what I had prepurchased on GCs.

We used our KTTW with charging privileges and used GC's to pay the balance every couple of days.

We didn't have a problem paying for other items (souvenirs and snacks) with GCs on our last trip. I'd like to use GCs again to pay for a meal (And I probably will). I'm just going to chalk it up to a off day with an an off server.

I need to get into Target and get Disney cards. Just checked and my 5% off coupon is good until 11/4, will have to be sure to go before then.

<sigh>... and THIS is why I need to remember to carry a check with me to Target some time... I never carry checks, and you can't set up the debit card without one... ah well, one of these days...

I also received a 5% coupon recently. I used it today (along with my debit red card) to buy $300 worth of Disney cards. It worked fine, no issues. The little but of extra savings was nice!

I wanted to post an update to using my 5% off coupon from the mailer with my Moms Target Red card. I got $1000 worth of Disney cards and of course we had other items as well. We loaded up the items and my mom put the 5% coupon with the other coupons we had, near the card terminal (where you can rest your purse). I about screamed when the cashier said, "I'm going to scan this (as she takes the 5% off coupon) then key in the cards". She grabbed it so fast and a discount of a measly $7.xx came off. I immediately said firmly but nicely - no you need to scan that *after* you ring up the Disney cards since they are eligible. I honestly think she had no idea and didn't think it would work. She then proceeded to key the 20 cards and my mom gave her Target Red card to pay. I knew I would only get $50 from using the coupon so I politely reminded her she still needed to adjust it. She said it would adjust it at the end but I wasn't going to take any chances. She must have seen the look on my face because she immediately said "would you feel better if I voided the first and redid it?" Of course I said yes and immediately the $50 came off and then another $45ish came off the rest from my mom using her Red card - just as it should have!! :thumbsup2

I honestly think something like this happened when my mom tried to redeem hers (as I've described in other posts) and she didn't know the cashier was doing this.

Had I not been watching her like a hawk it could have turned out the same and the cashier seemed genuinely surprised.

Glad that's done and happy I was abłe to save $90! :cool1:

I just wanted to let you know that I work at Target...

I purchased and paid for my entire trip last March with GCs I purchased at Target using my Team Memeber discount (10%) and my additional 5% for my Target Check card... It was a bit of a pain, because the largest card you can purchase at Target is $50, so I had to call in each and every one of them. I did twice to break it up - each time was well over $2k worth of cards. Not only that, but I purchased enough cards to pay for all of our souveniers/tips and any other $$ we needed in WDW.

The only part that was hard was keeping track of the balances.

Also, you cannot throw the cards themselves away until after your trip, because if anything happens where you have to be refunded any amount, it has to go back on the exact card you purchased with. Same with merchandise, if you purchase something while you are down there, and you return it, don't throw away the card (we learned this the hard way), because it has to go on the same card it was purchased with.

FWIW: I would never purchase any card for a trip that is outside Target's 90 day return policy, because if something does happen where you need to cancel, and it has to go back on the cards - theoretically, it would be stuck in Disney GC form, unless you are with in your 90 day return policy period, only at that time, could you return the cards to Target to get a refund - however, if the pin code is scratched off at all - even in the GC is fully loaded, they cannot return them at all. So, purchasing your trip this way is a very good way to save $$, but it really locks you into a trip (or several thousand in Disney GCs) with absolutely no backing out.

HTH! :)
