Paying for seats on Airtran

Right now, Airtran has a great price from Chicago Midway to MCO. Better than SW. If I go ahead and pay for my seats, what will happen if the merger is complete by the time we fly (in Sept.)?

I wouldn't worry about it. Why not concentrate on the Midway to MCO fare price?

If the price is that good now, go ahead and get them. We never buy our seats ahead of time. We check in 24 hours before online and have never had a problem.

As for the merger, they havent really said much about any changes once it happens. It could be awhile after it happens before we see any changes.

No one knows what's going to happen. I would pay for the seats if sitting together is important to you. That way your seats are guaranteed.

when you check in at 24 hours, do you then get an assigned seat no extra charge?

There won't be any changes until in to 2012. I don't even think the merger will be complete by September.

What about AAA if you have it. I just booked my AirTran flight for September with our agent and it was the same price I would have paid had I booked it here at home and we got to pick our seats for FREE!! We're a family of 5 (my mom is going with us), so we have an entire row.

Most likely they will honour what you have already purchased. ;)

OT but what I'm wondering about the merger is how will it affect people here in the Dallas area that usually fly Air Tran. Because of the Wright Ammendment Southwest doesn't fly out of DFW, but Air Tran does. If we have tickets for a flight out of DFW on Air Tran what happens when the merger goes through, since Southwest can't fly out of DFW? Not only would our flight change, but so would the airport, plus since Southwest doesn't do assigned seating we'd lose our seats?:confused3

Based on the Delta/NW merger...

Once the merger is complete all that means is that both airlines are "owned" by the same entity.

IT will take several more months (Or longer) for the "changes" to filter though the system. I would expect no major changes by September.
