We have a room only reservation at All Star Music next month. We paid the deposit with our Disney Vacation Account. Is there a way to pay the rest of the balance with the Disney Vacation Account or Disney Gift card? I had asked and the Cast Member told me it would be billed to the credit card we put on the room when we did online check in. Any experience with this?

If you don't pay before your check in day then they will charge the credit card on file on your arrival day, usually in the morning before you arrive. If you want to pay by another method, such as a gift card, then you can either call Disney to make a payment a day or two ahead of time or you can go to the check in desk when you arrive to have them remove the room charge from your credit card and pay with the gift card instead. :)

We always book a room only reservation and I like to pay with a gift card. i just call Disney a day or so before arrival to make the payment. :)

I have no experience with the Disney Vacation Account. But I have paid off quite a few room only reservations before our trip using Disney Gift Cards. You can use the automated phone system or speak to a CM.

The CM you spoke to is correct in that if you do still have a balance due, the CC on file in MDE will be charged the balance on check in day. Those charges usually go through in the AM of check in day.

Thanks for the replies! The CM on the phone acted like I couldn't pay the balance with either a gift card or the vacation account. I didn't figure that was the case.

Huh. Thanks for this info!

I've done a number of room only stays, but the last few years, we paid with gift cards a few days before our arrival. The last time I used a cc, was before this policy started, but it was also before automatic check-in. I knew they did automatic charging at the end of your stay, but not the start.

Good to know!

I wonder if it matters if you do the online check-in, and putting a cc on file for charges, though it probably doesn't.

If you pay for anything in advance with a Disney Gift Card keep them and don't throw them away. If for any reason they need to refund any of the charge they will put it back on the same gift card. This isn't only for cancellations but for adjustments of any kind to the room. I had a dirty room once upon check in that didn't get handled very well. Disney very graciously comped one night in the room and had I paid with a GC that is where the comp would have gone.

If this is no longer the policy it is a very recent change.

Yes, if you do not place a cc on file, then you have to go to the desk to actually check in and make your final room payment before getting your room number. So, you could then pay by credit card, gift card, or cash.

One time I wanted to pay with a gift card, but did online check in, forgetting I wanted to do the gift card, and they charged my card before I arrived. It was okay since I just used the gift card for a future stay where I did not do online check in and paid when I arrived. I would have called and paid ahead of time, but I forgot until the day before so I just decided to wait until I arrived.

Don't even mention the words DVA when you call in to make the payment. I think they get DVA confused with DVC. Just tell the automated system or CM gift card when they ask for form of payment and give them the DVA number.

I paid off my room-only reservation using both a Disney Vacation Account, Disney Gift Card, and Credit Card. I paid in full about a week ahead of our trip (which is tomorrow!). I spoke with a cast member each time and it was indeed easier to call the DVA a gift card for ease of getting the payment processed. Make sure you know exactly how much is in your DVA or on the gift card.

Just to be sure, you can unlink the credit card from your MDE account...I had to do that because my mom is paying the balance on the room...It means we won't be able to do online check-in, but I called and still able to make room requests through a CM.
