I know that, for those who booked with VA after 25th November, you can pay extra for additional bags.

Just wondered if anyone has doen this and, more importantly, has anyone done this and not needed to use it.

As it is just DH and I going this time, we are thinking we will be OK with our normal baggage allowance, however we are wondering whether to pay for an extra bag for the return journey just in case we need it. Trouble is, if we don't need to use it will that be a waste of our money or can we get a refund - does anyone know? It needs to be paid for in advance as it costs extra to add it on once you get to the airport - and we're not taking the laptop so won't be doing online chieck in.

Any suggestions/help gratefully received :)

We have the same dilemma. We might take a case in a case on the way out, so we'd have three in total coming back. I think it costs $50 for an additional case if you pay at the airport.

I doubt you'd get a refund if you didn't use the extra allowance.

You can do it online in advance, but it seems that this has to be done within the online check in window, i.e. 24 hours prior to departure. The trouble is that if you want it for coming back you can only do this in your online check in period for the return flight (if you have internet access when over there).

That could be a mixed blessing for you though. If you do need an extra bag, you an pay for it at the check in desk. It is cheaper to do it online, but still , it is better to pay a bit more IF you need it on the day than to pay for a bag you won't be needing beforehand.

I agree.

Is it £30 or £35 if you do it online? At the current exchange rate, $50 is around £35 anyway.

If you do it online, it is £32/$48

At the airport, it is £40/$60

We plan to do the same as you Lauren - take a case inside a case on the way out so we have an extra if needed. I think we will just end up paying for it at the airport if necessary. Will have to remember to save $60 so it won't seem like too much of an expense if I've already allowed for it.

Ah, ok. It must've gone up since I last checked.

I think it's the easiest way to do it. :thumbsup2

Is that price for one extra 23kg bag?

I'd convinced myself that light packing/not much buying was the key this time with the new limit but seems a reasonable price for an extra bag.

It's small compensation for taking it away from us in the first place ;) But yes, I was also surprised at the cost - I expected much more. I have been quoted for excess weight at the airport before and it was horrifically expensive - so I ended up unpacking some things and handing them to friends who were with me. (Of course the items went staight into my carry-on luggage  and came with anyway). This was years ago though - not sure we'd get away with that now.

Just pre-pay it and if you've not filled up your extra bag a couple of days before the end of your trip, go do some more shopping as you've clearly been slacking! :rotfl: ;)

Now that is the best stragegy I have heard! Anything to justify an extra spot of shopping

Could you not go into DisneyQuest to do your online check in? That is what we did last year. The computers are clunky, but it is included in the Ultimate ticket if you will be getting one this year.

There is also the option of asking at the desk if you are staying at the DVC properties. They will probably check you in if you ask.

Never been into DisneyQuest so it never occurred to me. Very clever! :)

A couple of good ideas there Sid. We are staying at Boardwalk Villas so could ask there - and if that's not an option we've got MYW+ so could go to Disney Quest on the last day and check in online. We quite like Disney Quest too so a good excuse to go there and get some cheesecake :)

I can't believe I have finally come up with something useful:lmao: Yay!!:rotfl:

The Cheesecake Factory is no longer there, but Disney have put in something very similar. They have cakes, and cheescake, and all sorts of lovely looking things, I had to try very hard to ignore them at 10am:rotfl: Unfortunately, I managed;)

Weee! That's good then :) Well, the cheesecake being there - not that you managed to resist ;)

Just slap some bacon on the top and you have yourself an American Breakfast. ;) Now that can be eaten at 10 am.

Not that any of this has anything to do with pre paying bags though.

Except I think I heard the Cheesecake Factory isn't there anymore :(

Sadness, then happiness all in one foul swoop :rotfl:

We are going to Cheesecake Factory at Mall at Millennia anyway so Im not overly bothered - as long as I can still get something yummy when I've finished blowing up pirates ;)
