I hope to be booking a June 2015 Alaska Cruise as soon as the dates open up, and then re-shopping it when we're on-board for our Eastern Caribbean cruise in April 2014 (assuming 2015 Alaska dates are available by then).

Per advice received on DIS, I've been accumulating a BUNCH of Disney gift cards...by the end of the year I will probably have anough to pay for the 2015 cruise in full. :cool1:

I want to take full advantage of booking credits, so I intend to book the initial June 2015 sailing Alaska online through DCL website, then transfer to a TA within 30 days).

Here are the questions..... I'd like to get the GCs placed ASAP, but only if they will transfer to the new reservation once I book that. I want to avoid re-entering a gajillion card #s if possible. If I know I will be shopping the cruise when I'm onboard in April, should I hold off on placing the bulk of my gift-card payments until after I know whether I'm sticking with the original Rez or creating a new rez onboard? If they can transfer the "lump" payment I already made, then I'd probably rather apply all the cards ahead of time, but if they need to credit each one back and then re-enter it for the new rez, I want to avoid that. thanks for your help.

All of your payments should just transfer to the new reservation unless you specify differently.

ETA: Neg58 has a good point, you can't transfer to a TA if paid in full so you will either need to book through a TA to begin with or not apply all the gift cards.

Why not assign to the TA immediately....why wait to transfer? Some TA offer a lesser OBC when you transfer. you may be better off booking directly with TA from the get go.

You also cannot have paid the cruise in full before you transfer to a TA. I would not apply the gift cards until it is the cruise you know you are going to take and have the TA in place, etc.
