I would like to pay off more of my trip prior to arriving at the Contemporary - would I be able to mail some extra money to be used for Chef Mickey's and dining in the parks?

I usually buy traveler's checks as I save money to "prepay" my trip. It ensures that money earmarked for my vacations is not accidently spent elsewhere. It worked on my last trip when I was saving for a day at the GF Spa.

I didn't want to carry money around or change from the money orders.

I don't think you can prepay for meals...You could also buy disney dollars if you had some rewards on your credit card that you still wanted to earn (i.e. frequent flier miles), but if you didn't want to carry along travelers' checks then you probably don't want disney dollars either.
Just a suggestion...

you could "prepay" on a credit card, and use that for expenses during your vacation......

Well, Disney isn't really a bank more than they are a business to take all of our money. You could do what we did - we made a bunch of enveloped up for different events that we stashed money in. For every major event - cruises, dinners, etc. we put the money in an envelope. At the start of the vacation we took all that money and you can put it on your room charge as a 'credit' instead of using a credit card. That way we HAD to stay on a budget and couldn't use more.

Beware they will allow you to go over that credit slightly, so keep track of your purchases so you don't have a surprise at the end.

Disnee Dad Says......................................We always paye xtra on a credit card so we have a positive balance to use.

We'll be using our credit card, and paying it off with money that is now being put into a savings account. I have also heard of people putting more money on their room card account and charging against that.

Simple Answer = YES.

1) You can pay as much deposit as you wish.
2) You may fully pay for your room stay prior to arrival.
3) You may over-pay for your room prior to arrival.
4) The overpayment will remain as a credit.
5) You can then charge the meal(s) to your room.
6) We have friends that do this every visit.

So if I pay ahead and don't use all the credit, how will they credit me?

If you overpay by CC, they will apply to CC
If you overpay by cash, check, TC, DD they will give you cash back.

We setup a credit line then charge to Visa (for points) then pay with money saved in Savings account (just for Disney).

Just another thought. Disney Travel Company offers packages that include all meals. You can call and ask about them. These can be paid off little by little before your trip.

If I'm not mistaking, you can only do this with CRO not WDTC.
I recall reading a thread about this sometime ago.

Don't know if this helps, but most banks anymore have debit cards which are Visa connected. So put the money in a savings account and get a debit card. You can use Visa at about anywhere in Disney I think. That way you don't have to carry cash. The money will come direct out of your account so no paying back worries. You couldn't even overspend, because the money would be directly debited from your account.
