If I need to pay cash for one or two nights of my stay, will I get a discount through MS or is it the rack rate? TIA!

We have used the 25% discount at HH several times to add days to a vacation. It is easy and has worked out very well in the past.

But the discount isn't always available, so you might be paying rack rate.

If you are an annual passholder, sometimes passholder rates are better than the DVC discount. Be sure to check that too!

It's been a while (2006) since I did this, so I may be misremembering (or it may have changed)...

But as I recall, you can get the DVC room rate discount thru MS (if it's available),but you can only get the AP discount (which is sometimes a deeper discount) only thru CRO...so that's worth checking, too...

I don't recall whether CRO reservations can be linked w/MS reservations...another issue to inquire about...

Good luck!

Yes they can be so you won't have to physically change rooms, but you will have to go to the front desk and "check out/check in".

Actually, in the past they couldn't link the two reservations. That may have changed with the new reservation system. But you have to note the other reservation number of each reservation.

And there are some reservations that are not availlable for cash, only through points. So you might have to move anyway because the room category isn't identical.

Agree if the category changes, I can only comment on my own experiences (which have been at OKW and VB) but I've always been able to have the other ressie noted and been able to stay in the same cat . It may depend on the resort, how busy things are etc.. But yes they aren't "linked" in the same way a DVC ressie is.

If you are going before the end of April, the Disney reservation website has 30% off rack rates. However, you need to BOOK BY FEBRUARY 13TH, but you can cancel and get all your money back up to 5 days before arrival.

There seems to be plenty of availablity. For example, at BWV standard views are available every single night in both March and April in both Studios and 1 Bedrooms.

We booked a BWV Studio under that offer, because DVC MS did not have a cash reservation available for the night we needed at BWV at either the 25% member discount or the full rack rate. I know points and cash reservations are a different inventory, but I am not sure why cash reservations are available through CRO, but not through DVC for the same room type for the same night(s)

FWIW: As hard as it is for members to get a standard view unless they book at the 11 month mark, I wonder how many of the cash reservations will end up getting an upgraded view, because I can not believe there are that many Standard views actually available through trade or Disney owned points.

What they call standard at Disney Reservation Center is the more likely available pool/garden view (60% of the resort).

So if you have a DVC standard view villa for most of your nights and a DRC "standard" for one or two nights, more than likely you will have to move.

When members trade out for the Disney Collection and other non-DVC stays (not RCI, though), the equivalent for their stay is turned over to DRC to sell to recover the cost of the non-DVC stay to pay for it.

Standard view through CRO gets whatever members don't book, so it is typically pool/garden. They book as standard. I don't think I've ever seen a pool/garden or boardwalk view room listed on CRO.

Points rooms and cash rooms (CRO) are a separate inventory. So those cash rooms listed on CRO are rooms that DVC itself owns or from member tradeouts, they are not available for points.

Thanks, I understood about the trade outs that turns rooms over to DRC, I was just supprised that given the limited number of Standard views available to members on points that there were so many available for cash. Your explaination that cash standard views are really points Garden/Pool views makes sense.

Now I realy hope my waitlist comes through. If I have to move, I could have gotten a points reservation at BCV for my last night. I booked the cash "Standard view" at BWV so I could stay in the same room I was in the previous nights (a BWV points standard view.)

Still do not understand why MS has different cash availability than DRC though. (I understand points rooms are a different inventory than cash rooms, but if a cash room is available from DRC/CRO why can't I book that same cash room through DVC)

MS might be able to book that on cash, but it wouldn't be a standard view room. It would be pool/garden view.

OK - I am confused. The 25% discount has been there whenever I asked for it - maybe a 5 or 6 times. It is because I don't have enought points (whatever is enough, anyway) to extend my stay as long as we would like to. Last year we did 3 nights at HH and 1 or 2 nights as AKL Kindini Village. I just book these at the same time I am making my reservations with Member Services on DVC points.

Do I understand correctly that I could request an additional day or two and then now be able to get the discount?
Thanks, Sandie

If it is available. It's not always available.

As mentioned by others in this thread, there are different inventories: points inventory, member cash inventory, etc. Whether you can add nights with the 25% discount will depend on whether there is still rooms available in the member cash inventory. For AKV, for reservations 6 months or more out, member cash inventory still looks good.

By the way, if you are just a few points short, it may be cheaper buying the points from DVC for $15 per point to complete your desired vacation.

Great idea - I never thought to rent points. We have a slew of them, but we like to take longer vacations and almost always have a 2BR s we can bring some of the grandkids. Then there is the "hey, I have an idea, lets go to Disney for a short trip!". I am borrowing next year's points all the time now.
