We have rooms reserved with the BRP so naturally there is a balance due on all of them. We have never had this happen before! What methods of payment does WDW accept when you check in? I assume Credit Card, Debit Card, Traveler's Checks, Cash. Do they also take personal checks? Thanks in advance!

They take pretty much whatever you want to give them :)

Cash (U.S. Currency)
Traveler's checks(must be in U.S. Dollars); Photo ID required
Personal checks *See check acceptance policy below
Disney Dollars
Credit Cards: Visa, JCB (Japanese Credit Bureau), Diners Club, Discover,
MasterCard, American Express (Debit cards must have a credit card logo on them)
Disney Rewards Card

* For check acceptance:

The name and address must be preprinted on the front of the check by the bank. The address must match the one on the driver's license. If the check has a P.O. Box number or the address doesn't match, the address from the driver's license will be written on the check. (No third party checks)

The check should be made payable to Walt Disney World (WDW).

It can not exceed the amount of the purchase.
Guest must have one of the following forms of photo (picture) identification:
Valid Driver's License, State Issued ID with picture, Active Military ID (green)
Passport

For the cast member to accept the check, Walt Disney World Resort also requires proof of established credit in the form of one of the following valid credit cards: American Express, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, Carte Blanche, Diner's Club (They just need to see the card, they will not write down the number or charge the card anything, they will just write that the card was presented)

Once this is all verified they will call the check in for approval...

Thanks for the quick reply. Seems like we can pay with almost anything then!

Something to add regarding the check acceptance procedure. They do call it into another company that approves/denies the checks. In March when we checked into the Contemporary I went to pay the room with my debit card but alas had forgotten that the balance was larger than the purchase limit on the card. :rolleyes1 I asked if I could write a check and the CM said no problem. The check was denied by the company (not WDW) because of the amount due to being written out of state. Apparantly the company was assuming that my checkbook had been stolen and that somebody went on vacation. (note I've never written a bad check and the amount was in the account so there was no logical explanation for the denial) Now I'm moritified and feeling very stupid. I broke out the cell... called my bank and had them increase my debit card limit to what the room balance was for the two weeks we were on vacation and no problem. It was an awkward moment for sure.

This in no way affected my vacation... had a great time :goodvibes Just wanted to state that sometimes the check thing may not always work if this outside company perceives that there may be something different. I've heard that if you don't typically write checks for a certain amount that they may deny them as well... for example you don't typically write checks for over $1,000 and then suddenly write a check for $5,000 whether you have the money or not that raises a red flag. In my case I've never written a check to Disney before so it raised a flag for my checkbook to suddenly be in FL when I live in KS. They did give me a slip of paper to call the company to check on why etc... but I just called my bank for a quicker fix.

If you plan to use a debit card to pay the balance you may want to double check that your spending limit is enough for the payment. Many have a $500 limit. Great for security reasons but not so great when in line to pay your room balance at the Contemporary.
